The important part is the "commercial" in CDL. Towing your own stuff for fun is not regulated anywhere near as much as if you're doing it for work. And a lot of the requirements kick in at 10,000 GVWR which is why pickups have a GVWR of 9,999 lbs.
Should you need proper training, a medical card, regular inspections and hour of service regulations for a huge motorhome with a big trailer? Probably. The regulations all exist for a good reason.
