It's not "a whole another".  "Whole" is that wonderfully American English linguistic known as an infix, where a modifier is placed inside a word rather than before or after like a prefix or suffix.   "Whole" is placed inside "another".

It's "another whole" or "a whole nother", not "a whole another".  "A whole another" is like a PIN number or an ATM machine.
