Why does it have so many retweets and likes?

It's a pretty deep joke. What if is the theory. Just kidding unless I'm not is the hypothesis. At least that's how I read it.
The idiocracy or 2019 is reference- at least to me, to the fact that everyone is pretty much making E36 M3 up, claiming it was a joke if they get bombed, unless they get support. See- flat earthers.
Isn't theory and hypothesis the same thing?
Theory is the working model for how something works, hypothesis is devising ways to try to prove the theory wrong. I think. Theories get stronger the more you test them based on different hypotheses, because it zeros you in on what is going on.
So you get the theory of gravity, which is pretty well finely sorted out by now, including proof that gravity "travels" at the speed of light (the speed of causality, really), except for the minor detail that we don't exactly know the mechanism that causes it yet.
And then you get string theory, which is pretty much mental exercise and no real way to prove it one way or the other.

Gravity seems well understood in the old Newtonian sense of the theory... then you start reading Hawking's "A Brief History of Time".

There's a reason I keep looking at old Chrysler Imperials. If they've been banned from demo derbies, they might survive i-4
