Hope everyone has a good Memorial Day. Let's not forget all those service members who made the ultimate sacrifice ...

Remember that today isn't the day to thank people for their service. It's the day to remember those that gave everything in their service.

Never understood that.

I am honoring the sacrifice of our fallen heroes today.  Rest well, brothers and sisters, knowing that we respect what you have done in service to the country.

My memorial day tradition is to take 10 minutes to watch the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unkown Soldier and reflect on the significance:

Dacula - a small town near where I live - has a Memorial Day parade every year where they carry pictures of fallen members of the Armed Forces. I've been taking the kids to that every year.

On Saturday, I was driving around my son, who is 6, to practice and one of the townships has signs on the utility poles that remembers and names fallen soldiers.  Got to explain to my son about how those soldiers died while protecting us and keeping us free.  For some reason looking at all the pictures and realizing how young these men where when they served/passed really hit me hard.  I also noticed how most were pictured in front of some very heavy machinery.  I can't even imagine what people who served in armed forces have seen and dealt with, but I sure as hell appreciate it and don't take their service for granted.
