I’ve inherited what I believe to be the world’s most comprehensive collection of one type of US military history items with the complete back story and provenance/documentation. I’m reluctant to disclose what it is, but does anyone know an appraiser who could help me get an insurance value on something like this? Based on the value of individual pieces when they do come up for sale, we may be talking many tens of thousands of dollars in value as individual items but the collection with military documentation and provenance in the almost perfect condition has me boggled. I also have my cousin on the case, he’s the curator of the Cleveland soldiers and sailors monument/museum, but like most historians they don’t put values on things, they’re just interested in the historical significance. It was enough that he’s super excited and nothing I’ve ever shown him made him give more than a meh in the past.
i figure the GRM network knows all, and maybe i’ll feel comfortable enough provide some more details later after i process what’s sitting in my bedroom a little better.

No clue.
But I gotta watch this thread!!
No idea but it fits in his bedroom so that ruins my first guess that it is a collection of Vehicles related.
I was sort of hoping it was a collection of Pre-WW2 failed Jeep Prototypes complete with build and testing documentation.
In reply to Patrick :
Watch Antiques Roadshow reruns & look for appraisers who fit your needs, the search for those appraisers online? Keep in mind depending on the number of items your appraisal fees could be in the hundreds or thousands.
The other thing you could do is contact Christie’s and see if they’re interested and/or would recommend an appraiser. I’ve contacted them before & they were very helpful, but of course my junk was E36 M3 & they weren’t interested in selling it.
This popped up on the googles: http://www.centurionauctions.com/militaria/appraise-military-wartime-collectibles-collections
Can't vouch for them, but I'd be interested in your experience if you call them. They claim they do insurance estimates as well auctions. I've got an F-4 Phantom ejection seat I'd like to have appraised some day.

also interesting development since I posted this, we found 3 binders hiding under the window bench with his memoirs. Ww2, korea, and post war civilian life one binder each. He was definitely into the korean ladies.
Maybe there's something to the saying "Me love you long time"

contact U.S.Infantry museum at Ft Benning Ga.
Patrick, there's a military museum in Cleveland and others in the area. I would take some photos and short list of what you have and talk to them, pretty sure they could point you to someone. Is your collection from a specific era?
Motts.

Valuations vary drastically. Do you want an insurance value or a sale value?
