I needed the extra run from a re-run to beat KazooJr. in autocross today. If timing hadn't gone on the fritz, I'd have come home in second.

yes but you still were faster the the child so that is all that matters.
Autocross would be more fun if all runs counted. More effort would be spent on going 110% all the time.
I like the sound of rotaries and especially ported rotaries because I played DOOM a lot as a youf.
(doesn't suck)

See, in our case, I'm going to have to disagree. I've got 8 years of experience on the kid. My first run was 4 seconds faster than him. During our runs, I improved a little, he improved at lot. We exchanged the lead 3 times on the last three runs. If it were accumulated time, it would have been pretty much over after the first run.
I may have surpassed myself in sketchy engineering:
The play set was a little too close to the tree swing for comfort, and I was not about to take it back down. So after some false starts, I ended up with two 4x6 beams across the side walls of my utility trailer, a floor jack in the trailer picking the play set up, then one beam with concrete blocks and 2x4 scraps to hold the play set up, the other with jack stands perched on it. I then slooooowly moved it forward with the mower (thank goodness for hydrostatic drive) about 8'. The entire time I was convinced it was not going to work and was going to end catastrophically, but it went perfectly.
Keep in mind at this point in assembly the play set probably already weighed close to 800 pounds.

As am I. The Puerto Rican wash kid who used to work at my dealership is always pestering me to let him build a turbo rotary and put it in my Miata. On one hand, it'd be interesting, On the other, my Rotrex-blown BP has sufficient power and isn't fiddly or unreliable

And won't make everyone within a half-mile radius hate you more than they do the local Harley Guy.

Ehhhh, debatable. It's better this year, now that I swapped out my non-resonated test pipe for a resonated test pipe, but it's still pretty freaking loud. Last year I blasted 96.5db with the baffle installed in the tailpipe, and I got thrown out of Lime Rock Park for being too loud as well.
In reply to Duke :
My ears still hurt thinking about watching guys racing rotary powered Starlets and RX3s in the Bronx.
I’ve watched Simon Pagenaud feed his dog a dozen times today.

he's a super rad dude. met him nearly a decade ago when he was racing in ALMS for highcroft.
now i've watched a bunch of videos of Simon and Norman...
The Miata kind of needs a brake overhaul, so I ordered up a set of those Wavespec rotors. Is there any tangible advantage to them? Not sure. But they look cool.
I just ate a skin sammich, bbq sandwich, and fries for lunch.
Despite the fact that i have a cooler with lunch in the back seat.
Blood pressure be damned!
Planned to do the brakes in the NC last weekend. Pulled off the right side and the pad had gone metal to metal with the rotr on the inside. Flew down to NAPA before they closed to pick up a pair of rotors.
Turns out the right side caliper is sticking (left hand had 25% pad left) and i need to replace that too. Argh.
At least it's a "minor" rant and within my skills and finances to fix myself.

I find the idea of a "Skin Sammich" to be disturbing.
I've had the parts to do the impeller in my boat motor for a month, and despite it needed to be done before we can take the boat out, I've not turned a wrench on it at all.
I gave up booze 26 years ago and weed 30 years ago but when I saw a bunch of brass “one hitters” for sale at a gas station today I kinda wanted to do one. Take me back to the 1980’s
Odd how seeing stuff can trigger those thoughts.

Illinois senate just passed the bill, right?
My uncle (in Michigan where it is legal, fwiw) was showing off his brass “circa 1983 Ball State” one hitter last weekend. Very proud of it. Then he made fun of my other uncles aluminum one.
