My rant.  The laziest guy in the shop; that claims to be one our companies top 5 technicians, that doesn't know to pull the protective film off tint before applying it, that never finishes his job every day, but is always packing his tools up early; that asks for help on the stuff he doesn't want to do.

I just wish they'd get rid of the "80s icons" DJs...  I didn't switch to sat radio to listen to DJs talking about how cool they are.  Just play the berkeleying music.

Wasted an hour-plus diagnosing a wiring problem that turned out to be "Alldata has the pinout wrong".  And I should have known better but wasn't paying close enough attention.

Once I said berk you Nobu I do this myself, I found the corroded ground wire in about 15 seconds.

(Alldata diagram had the O2 heater ground going through the PCM.  What they claimed was that, was the signal ground...)

My rant: Calling Jobu Nobu is bad.

                        VERY BAD.

I thought it was Jobu once, then I looked it up on YouTube and it was Nobu.  Or maybe the other way around.

Either way, I do this myself.

I have clicked the Volvo article 4 times tonight because of that stupid, berkeleying, irritating, should be damned for all eternity, "Features" dop down that covers half the berkeleying screen.

A "Feature" it is not. More like a design flaw. It adds nothing to the website beyond making navigation a pain in the ass.

I almost wonder if it isn't there just to generate accidental clicks on other pages. no

Can it at least be delayed so it doesn't drop instantly when the pointer gets near it?

They have a handful of DJs I enjoy, usually for odd reasons but the rest are awful.  Pretty much all the 80s and 90s ones could go away.

I've been at it for like an hour, and I can't find definitive evidence that Zenos is still a company. If they shut down after being rescued by AC et al, they did it without making any news. If they resumed operations, they also did that without making any news. They haven't tweeted or insta'd in ages.

Suburban had a dead battery.

Wife pulled it out of park to roll it back so younger son could open the hood for a jump.

Shift lock out solenoid broke in the process and then it wouldn't go back into park.

Order part and install this morning.

It will jump but won't stay running below 1500 RPM. Thinking alternator. Try charging battery and find out it was shorted internally.

$200 later, new solenoid and new battery.

Batteries are getting crazy expensive.

I haven't searched for anything "LS swap" related on eBay or have any watched items that would assume it, yet....

Really hating marketing.

I am getting those too.

My online experience with LS swaps suggests that they do not like being used hard unless you enjoy the dropped valve/broken piston/split cylinder wall chain of events.  My favorite was the guy with a CTS-V who photographed a oil ring spreader lounging on one of the control arms after it exploded on track.

I did note that the first thing they did with the "LSZ" engine's heads was replace all the valves with good ones, and grunted in approval.

My feet have been killing me for awhile so I stood on one of those heat activated insole chooser things to see what insoles I should get.

I apparently now have flat feet, that would explain the pain and suddenly needing 13s instead of 12s for shoe sizes. This sucks

I had a coach tell me “you have to let the kids decide the game” and “they weren’t bad calls but you have to give us a chance to even it up”.

First of all, I am letting the kids decide the game. Your kids decided to hook and body check their opponents (no-checking age group). And I ignored about 4 other calls, but those were so blatantly obvious I couldn’t ignore them.

Second of all, what the hell do you mean “give you a chance to even it up”? Other team was clean, I’m not going to make up a call.

Last, they WERE good calls. Thanks for acknowledging it.

Today I got a flat tire on the extremely short drive over to my dad's house. It's seriously less than 5 miles. The culprit was a small curled up piece of debris that looks like a metal shaving from a machine shop. At least the donut was full of air.

My friend's invited me to RetroGamesCon 7 in Syracuse this weekend. Not usually my sort of thing, as gaming is kind of a secondary or tertiary hobby and I don't ever go to that kind of stuff, but there was a free Mario Kart 8 tournament and I like to think I'm pretty good at Mario Kart 8. Tournament is at noon, we get there at 11, go to the stage where they are holding the tournament and there is another event going on, so I don't want to bother anyone about signups, figuring they are holding them after that event finishes. Noon rolls around and they wrap up the one event and an event staffer announces they are starting the Mario Kart tournament and ask if anyone isn't signed up yet. I raise my hand, he points at a desk clear across the convention hall and goes "Signups are over there." Hustle down there and tell the person at the desk that I'm there for the Mario Kart signup and the guy in a very exasperated tone says "Why do they keep sending people down here? They took the signup sheet from me back to the stage 10 minutes ago. C'mon, I'll go talk to them." Get back to the stage and the guy who told me to go to that desk is holding the signup sheet in his hand. Go back up to him and he tells me "We got more people than we expected and it was first-come, first-serve. Sorry." They had, maybe, 30 people. 1) That's not that many. Mario Kart tournaments can rip through huge attendance numbers fast. 2) How did you not expect a large turnout? It's a game that's very accessible to people of all ages and very popular with a relatively low skill cap. I was not the only irritated person as well.

So, head off to find my friends who were both supposed to be competing in 2 different events so that I can at least root for them. Find them and they tell me that both their events (Dragon Ball FighterZ and Soul Calibur VI) got canceled because too many people showed up for the earlier Mortal Kombat II event and it was going to run over into their time slots and they didn't have the staff capacity to run other events. Wait, so they capped attendance on one event, but not the other? And then didn't let people know  that they were cancelling 2 events until 15 minutes before they were about to start? What the berkeley? The whole event was a E36 M3show and at this point left to wander aimlessly for 4 hours, because one of my friend's entered the raffle and we had to stick around until they were drawn.

Given that I have an account on this site and am reasonably active, it's probably not that much of a surprise that even when there's no chance in hell that I can pick up another vehicle that I'm still looking at listings and enjoying dreaming about what I'd like to buy when it would be reasonable to get another car. If I'm bored and don't have anything else interesting to do, I'm probably going to browse CL or FaceBook Marketplace.

The Dancer automatically assumes that if I'm looking at cars that I'm planning to buy one- and while she's right in a long-term sense she assumes I plan to RIGHT NOW and says dramatic things like, "Well OK- how do we return the truck? Because we can't afford the payments on it AND getting another car..."

OK, first off- I'm not stupid, I have at least as good of a grasp on our financial situation as she does and know that it's not a smart time for us to buy pretty much anything, least of which a car. Hell, I passed at jumping on a $500 2003 Miata not too long ago! Second... my search parameters for cars that I halfway seriously would pick up this Spring when we know what's happening with our taxes tend to top out at about $1500. Even if I WERE to not be able to resist picking something up it would far from break that bank for us, and since I want something small, efficient, and with a stick the odds are that it would SAVE us money vs. driving the QX4 around all the time (especially when I'm making multiple 130-mile round trip runs each week out to the cabin in an SUV that gets about 15MPG on the highway and runs on mid-grade....). Finally- Since we've been married, I've run every car purchase at least BY her- I'm not going to run out and buy something without her at least knowing about it and having the opportunity to talk me out of it.

Next rant- this is the THIRD day that the power company has had guys out in our back yard trimming trees around the power lines. I know it needs to be done- but while they're out there we can't let the dog out into the back yard both because it's not safe and because they tend to leave the gate open and he could get out.

Finally... working from home today because I want to deal with neither the traffic or people that the 'event' downtown tonight will involve. I can't find a comfortable place to work because my actual desk and the area surrounding it are so cluttered it would take too long to clear a space there to work...

I left a pretty damn good company to join this one, solely for project coordinating experience and only 10 miles from my house vs the 30ish for the last one. Zero drama at that one, too, other than the typical, "That director is such a dick" complaints.

At this one? Coworkers berkeleying each other, manager catching wind and telling them to stop, both get busted by their spouses, one gets an ultimatum and quits while the other nonchalantly is going through the Big D, while also getting a promotion, and previously mentioned manager wants up in that, THEN goes on a "site visit" to another state, by themselves.

And none of it is hidden with any sort of discretion, they're just acting/hoping everyone is dumb or blind.
