I just went through this cleaning out my Mom's place. How many woodworking clamps does one man need? I did get about 40lbs of new solder, though
Okay, that's an exception to the rule. I have never - and I mean *never* - stood around and said, "Gee, I have too many clamps on that".
To my wife's credit, she does see the need to get rid of things, she just... doesn't. There was a 3-row-mercedes-full load of junk that she had accumulated in the basement, blocking the door. She was just waiting for the trash fairy to come and get it and leave a quarter under her pillow or something.

Insomnia.
Fairly recently I'd started dealing with intermittent insomnia. Over the past couple weeks, things had been looking better - falling asleep fine; wake up, turn over, and get back to sleep; maybe waking up earlier than I wanted ~5am instead of ~6am. Couple nights ago actually got a full, deep night of sleep.
Last night was the worst insomnia I've ever had. I was on my way to falling asleep, but then the dog started barking his head off at the cats, and I'm wide awake and can not fall asleep. Tried everything I could and was up until around 5am. Got maybe 1-2 hours this morning until I woke up full at 7.
This sucks. I'm concerned about this becoming A Thing.
I meditate semi-regulalry. I exercise a lot. I am not overweight or have health issues that mess with sleep. I got a prescription from my Dr. for Hydroxizine (an antihistimine that causes more drowsiness and has some anti-anxiety properties). None of that worked. I was relaxed and tired.
It's like... I start drifting towards sleep, but I hit the barrier between resting awake and sleep and bounce off it instead of drifting asleep. Like the "Sleep/Awake" switch in my head is rusty and won't flip into position.
I'm pissed at the dog because last night I *had* flipped that switch to "Sleep Mode", he snapped it back to "Awake", and it got stuck there.

I shouldn't even ask what thread, but I'm morbidly curious.

It's worse than that. Our resident GG Allin knows exactly what he is doing.

If it's what I think ya'll are talking about, they're being aggressively ignored and i'm basically living in their head rent-free. I can troll them a little bit and put further responses to a democratic vote, but only if others are cool with an off topic light patio in that thread (one that'll have proof of course, I'm not an amateur).
If the teeth I don't have anymore could stop hurting, that would be awesome.
Honda sold me oil pan crush washers in a package size I'd call "optimistic lifetime." I've farmed out a couple of oil changes, moved twice, and now I can't find them. I have a clear calendar, a cool day, an empty garage, an empty drain pan, shop towels, a filter, a jug of Mobil1 and no crush washers.

When it gets really bad the almost climactic excitement of finally edging into sleep will bounce you away from sleep.
When it gets bad for me, I listen to music. It can't be energetic music and it has to be music I know. Preferably something from the vinyl years when music had a lead in and a lead out. If I mentally follow the song that I know, I end up eventually following a lead out and I fall asleep between songs.
Actual minor rant, stovetop checking a 203 degree thermostat at an altitude where water boils at 202 degrees is annoying. My 50-50 coolant mix boils at about 225.

Had to look that one up, wow. I thought someone was on thin ice? Either way I don't want to see that thread get locked because someone needs to be a shiny happy person.

Yeah, which is why I'm leaning hard on no response to watch them rage lol
The passenger seat heater in the family van has gone tits-up. The heater has an open element, which is a pretty good reason for the heater not to work. They're also only about $34.
Replacement entails pulling out the seat, uncovering everything, replacing the element, and then replacing everything. Yuck.
The engine I put in my Miata temporarily over 2 years ago just told me that temporary ends today. I don't know what let go but it's definitely some of the expensive inside bits.
"That's funny, the fuel gauge is on E."
It turns out the no-start condition on the Birkin appears to be at least partly down to the tank being completely dry.
A little more investigation finds that the super-safe fuel cans I own are incompatible with the Birkin in a way that mostly just pours fuel on the floor while looking like it's because the tank is full to the level of the filler tube. So, when I "swapped the old gas for new" at the beginning of summer, I actually pumped all of the fuel out of the car, poured approximately zero fuel back in, poured a bit on the ground, then spent the summer questioning the ignition system since I had the supposed problem of old fuel "sorted."
I am an idiot. I guess the win is that I did not spend a few hundred on having the car flatbedded to a specialist shop who have an old-timer with Weber chops on the payroll only to have them call and tell me the dash says E.

Finally got a chance to work on the jeep, and was making good progress. Finished cutting through the 1/2" bolt to get the lower control arm out.
Then I started reassembling and got the rack bolted in and torqued (180 ft-lbs ), set the engine back in the mounts and bolts tightened, y pipe tightened, and front differential back in. I was about to start bolting in the front driveshaft in and noticed the rear joint (cv style) has a torn gasket, looks contaminated, and has a bunch of slop.
I had left it tucked between the floor and the trans cross member when I unbolted it, since I just wanted it out of the way for removal of the front diff.
The driveshaft can not be removed from the vehicle, unless the trans crossmember is removed! At least the cross member came out without breaking anything, and the driveshaft is completely out of the vehicle.
Now to order a new driveshaft, since this one isn't serviceable, and add another $250 to the project cost.
No part of this project has gone smoothly!

I still have a pain in the Wisdom tooth area for whatever reason randomly.
Incredibly annoying

Yesterday tunawife made a comment about how I look in a very negative way. While I was trying to recover from her sorta-joke, she shows me this book which has her laughing and threatening to buy for our nephew
And says I should be in it.
She doesn't understand why that hurt my feelings, and when I wasn't up for a kiss this morning she got mad. So now she's mad at me for being hurt. I think.
I'd like to get off of the ride, thanks.

I do that to help calm my mind to relax, and have good music for that. My trouble is I don't think I'd do well wearing headphones to bed, and I don't want to play the music out loud and disrupt my wife.
I like low-key but complex jazz. Things for my brain to follow, but no lyrics. "Take Five", "Cantaloup Island", or pretty much all of Mile's Davis "Kind of Blue" album. I also really like Willie Nelson, especially his song-book albums. 'Stardust' is great. I mean... it's basically lullabies.
...
Insomnia again last night, but less bad than the night before. I was exhausted. I was falling asleep sitting on the couch watching TV. Moved to bed and I was falling asleep reading. Put the book down and... not falling asleep.
Wife was up and about in the bathroom next to the bedroom getting herself ready for bed. That activity close by kept me hovering on the edge. By the time she was done and in bed, I'd passed the "fall asleep window". It took getting up and going to the spare bed to fall asleep.
Middle of the night (early morning?), I woke up there and had trouble falling back asleep. Moved back to the mast bed and fell asleep fine. Didn't need to do any routine of reading, meditating, stretching, or anything more than a quick pee.
So current game plan:
- I need to either go to bed either: early enough that I fall completely asleep before my wife starts her pre-bed routine, after she is done with her routine and is in bed, or fall asleep in the guest room.
- If I wake up in the middle of the night and can't fall back asleep, switch beds.
Let's hope this works.

Which Jeep? CV joints for the front driveshaft are available for some of them. That boot is very common to tear and then the joint fills with muck, so replacing just the boot is pointless.
