Dammit Michigan, I thought we were done with this. At least it snowed enough that the dog got to roll in it and plow through it one last time until next winter.

You (I) hope this is one last time...!

Damn good time for a vacation.
We don't come back for another week.
We didnt get much snow but theres plenty of ice. Open diff with summer tires made it interesting getting too work.
I'd just like to say berkeley the GM J platform and it's craptacular wiring, berkeley it to death, berkeley it until the last one is recycled into Chinese appliances. The toy like plastic headlight switch on the column is the actual headlight switch, no relays, and it's a switched ground system, with a failed three way low beam ground splice somewhere approximately under the battery if my googling and diag work in 30* weather is correct. My sister will just have to drive without low beams until the end of the school year. I'd also like to put it on the record that I had ZERO part in the procurement of this E36 M3ty 96 Cavalier with no rocker panels.
Also, is there a correct tool to remove the threadlocked in column tilt stalk, or is it supposed to be replaced every time the column covers need to come off?
Rant 1: I took my snow tires off two weeks ago and put my 1/2 worn Michelin Pilot AS/3s on. Since 10:30 we have about 2" of snow on the ground. As soon as I touch the brake pedal, ABS kicks in.
Rant 2: My Golf TDI is a magnet. It was rear ended the 2nd day I owned it. A friend backed into it while it was parked in his driveway. And today, it was rear ended leaving the grocery store. No damage fortunately as it was a low speed bump, but the other guy wanted to call the police anyway. They just said to exchange information. I got his picture, car's picture, and information. I'm not filing a claim, but it will still probably show up on the CarFax. So much for any residual value thanks to other idiots on the road and VWs dieselgate. I'm going to be forced to drive this thing forever (which was the plan anyway at least), but I wanted to get something back out of it.

I'm an engineer, acronyms are in my blood.
First rant: berkeley health insurance companies. Went in Friday morning and saw the ortho PA and confirmed yup, you did a number on your Achilles. Orders up an MRI of it so they can decide how extensive the damage is and what needs to be done to fix it and their admin staff finds a a lot for me a few hours later.
We get to the imaging clinic and are told that my insurance has denied the pre-authorization for the MRI. The ortho has re-opened it and put in a more extensive explanation (really, what more is necessary than 'we can't see what happened without this' is necessary?) but the insurance co has put under medical review and has 48 hours to respond. This would mean I'd have to wait until Monday to even have the MRI and I'm supposed to see the ortho early Monday morning to go over the MRI and figure out what to do. So I have to sign a waiver that if the insurance co DOES continue to deny the approval that I have to pay for the MRI (~$1400). Granted, I have a hdhcp so unless I've hit the deductible will be paying for it anyway (goodbye HSA balance...), but it is still frustrating as all hell.
If I wasn't already a big fan of single payer healthcare I sure as BERK am now.
Second: I've pretty much figured out that the only way I'm going to be able to commute is getting a 50cc scooter to ride since my right ankle will be immobilized for months. Lucky me, there's almost NONE available cheap and used nearby.

My neighbor has a 2001 PAU that he has driven with his left foot for 100K+ miles now. His right leg/ankle was injured in an accident years ago and he cannot flex the ankle at all. He bought the car new because it had no center console so he could sit with his right leg in the center and use the left on the pedals.

Unfortunately the PAU really shouldn't be driven by anyone at this point- I was looking for a car to drive so I could pull its L67 and get rid of the rest when this happened. A scooter will frankly be far safer too since the scooter would have working turn signals! I don't really want to re-learn driving a car for a few months and then have to un-learn that when I can use my ankle again. Plus a scooter will be a new adventure in the sea of things I can not do for a while...
Pretty minor but here we are. I'd like to be able to afford new(er) Hoosiers for the CSPish Miata. Had our first points event today and drove well enough. The car felt pretty good. But a lack of absolute grip from the take-off (thrown away) 140+ run tires was a bit of a drag.
I know, minor rant but that's it.

Totally correct sir!
Hard to find a rant in a day like today but I guess I'm little upset that both of my favorites where out of the race early, one of his own doing and one taken out.
Just got the blue screen of death - something not seen since maybe 1999 - on my iphone
There is no joke there. That really just happened.
Took the CTS-V to the dealership for a diagnosis regarding some issues on 3/26. I explained the issues and gave a details on how to reproduce it. Of course, those details didn't make it to the tech as he came back with an all clear. Ugh . . . I reiterated the details and left the car for continued diagnosis.
The SvcAdv wasn't available when I called for an update on 3/30. I paid them a visit on 4/2 to find the SvcAdv AND SvcTech assigned were out. The only notes in the system were "ordered seat belt tensioner". Strange . . . I don't remember authorizing anything.
Received a call on 4/4, that the SvcTech has reproduced the issues and is currently testing sensors and wiring.
Received another call this morning (4/11), that the V was repaired and ready for pickup. The SvcTech found some connectors that where damaged and replaced all of them. Strange . . . I don't remember authorizing anything.
My bill better read nothing more than a diagnostic fee since I did not authorize any repairs.

that's weird. I didn't even know iOS BOSD was a thing.

When any Tunavehicle goes into a dealer, it gets a typewritten explanation, kindly explaining the issue, what I want done, and what I authorize, with my phone number and E-mail address. I give a copy to the service advisor and tape one on or near the steering wheel.

It is!
It wasn't classis IBM style with indecipherable stuff and just stuck there. I was using it uploading a picture when the screen turned that same eery shade of blue and a few seconds later it restarted.
Apple has not done much to impress me.
In reply to tuna55:
They had all of the information before I arrived. Their spiffy scheduler app makes it possible.
When I arrived the SvcAdv greeted me and referenced the entry I made on the app verbatim. I did reiterate I wanted a call once they discovered the problem. When I didn't hear from them, I asked for an update call AND a call upon discovery of the issue.
I did receive two calls . . . The update call and the it's fixed call.

Understood. The paper left in the vehicle makes sure the tech gets the information you want him to get, that's all.
