This stupid temp probe is reading wrong. This is an important control for the beer making process.

Installed a new temp probe, and it didn't fix the problem. Something is wrong with the calibration in the electronics somewhere, but I have no system to fix that. Argh!

Sounds like having fully redundant temp probe systems might be a good idea, I'm sure the loss caused by this won't be cheap. Maybe get something more open as the backup system.

Yup, same here- and we've gotten it officially diagnosed a while back. Didn't ever find anything that actually helped to counter it, so just have to be aware of it and deal with it and SWMBO knows she has to crack the whip so-to-speak when there's something that NEEDS to be done (like the work I've been doing for her upcoming show). Unfortunately doesn't do anything to counter my tendency to procrastinate...

Just manifest itself in a different way as a grown up.

I worked around it by pulling the temp probe off a less critical system and sliding it into the thermowell for this temp probe. That's just a PITA to do. I want my equipment working properly.

It now appears that the issue is the way the controller box is reading things. I don't know how to fix or calibrate that. (It has a 'Calibrate' function for the temp probes, but it doesn't seem to be working properly.) Trying to contact the manufacturer to walk me through resolving this, but they're on the west coast and no one is in to answer my questions yet.

I apparently stirred up a hornet's nest at work. As I am sure many of you know, I have crohn's disease. I have had it since I was 14. One of our jobs at work is running a followspot during the shows. We do not always have to do it, but it is on our list of responsibilities.

To do this job, I literally have to fast the day of so as to have nothing in my intestines before making the three floor climb to the catwalks. If I wanted to use the toilet, it is three floors down and 50 some meters from the door through a working kitchen. Even with fasting, I will still have to go minutes before a show starts due to anxiety.

I have muddled through this for years without complaint. Yes, I have needed somebody to come up and relieve me a couple of times so I could relieve myself, bit no real issues. Until a couple of months ago.

After our last round of Fall Arrest training, they realized that we need to be harnessed up when running a spot because we need to lower the handrails to an unsafe level to use them. It is now impossible for me to get to the toilet, use it, climb back up, and get back into my harness before a show starts. Last show I did it sans harness as I did not have the time.

Today (this is my Monday) I have to sit in HR and explain to them why I can no longer "do my job" when running a spot constitutes a little less than 1% of it (I am usually the deck electrician during a show. Yes, 14 years ago I agreed that there was nothing that constituted my job description that I could not do, but I was 33 then and my job description has changed since then.

I'm beginning to think that what I thought was a failing wheel bearing (which I already bought) is actually a slider pin that appears to have recently become very stuck (moderate hammering didn't move it, but the pad wear is pretty even. Then I got rained out before I could get it apart far enough to put a indicator on the hub.

I need to get the berkeley out of Michigan.

In reply to mad_machine:

That should be covered by the reasonable accommodation part of the ADA. Especially since they changed the job and then required the additional equipment I would expect HR could deal with this.

Make a list of tasks to call a job complete.

Stick to the script.

I know it's the same thing as just finishing the job you know needs to be done but for some reason having it written down works. YMMV.

I've talked about it in your presence many, many times. I've gotten my helmet out, cleaned it and put it in the bedroom in plain view. So, why. Why are you surprised when I remind you that it is this Friday and that I was curious if you were interested in coming out and watching? You didn't answer that question the last few times I asked and really I'm just looking for a little support and excitement from my partner. Why do I have to remember and support ALL of your events, while the few that I manage to do get ignored or forgotten?

LOL. I'm leaving for a solo moto camping trip in Nova Scotia on Wednesday. It's been on my calendar since January and friends have brought it up at dinner with my wife where I discussed plans at length. My wife just feigned surprise that I wouldn't be home in time for the weekend despite there being a tent erected in the living room while I seam sealed it two days ago - and it being 4200 miles of riding to NS and back.

I think it's just passive aggressive posturing. I'm sure it's safe to ignore. In fact, I'm not even sure if there is cell service in Meat Cove to hear any complaining about it once I'm underway. Probably none in the paddock either

Roommate is moving out, didn't pay for rent for any of July.
Gets mad at me when I give him until Sunday at noon to have all of his stuff gone.
An extra 36 hours and I'm the bad guy?
I'm doing him a berkeleying favor.

could be worse, roommate I had hooked up with my sister and she moved in too. (I moved out to get away from her) and then 6 months later, they tell the landlord we are not renewing the lease. I came home from work one day to their stuff gone and the locks changed

What? Rust happens and calipers are maintenance items. Go to NAPA, get a pair of Eclipse remans, and continue on with life.

I have only had Teh Volvo since 2014 and it's already on its third set of rear calipers and second set of fronts. (Not NAPA, since NAPA doesn't normally stock calipers for weird Swedish-Japanese cars, but Foreign Car/forgot the new name does, and they are only $160ish a pair versis $160ea from NAPA and you get what you pay for)

Rant: Just went to get my ASE recerts because Da Boss has been leaning on me to recert ever since all of my certifications expired... uh... in 2007.

The new testing sucks. I don't do good with computerized testing. I feel more comfortable with good ol' pencil and paper and a booklet to quickly scan through, answer the simple questions, then go back and mull over the other ones. Plus, the monitors they used were HUGE, like 17", and the screens were maximized. My tunnel vision doesn't accomodate that very well.

And out of the four recerts that I finished in under an hour, I got one question wrong. That is going to annoy me forever. Which one did I get wrong? They won't ever tell you. The pass criteria is 66%, but if it's not 100% then it's a fail in my book.

One of the things I worried about with the new job is it would interfere with taking care of the wife. If I have a serious incident I cannot leave. Today the wife called to say she was going to the walkin clinic for a fever and nausea she's had a few days. Calls back to say doc wants her to go ER. Thinks she has bad infection and can't do blood work with holiday weekend. I get tied up with a drawn out accident investigation and stay 5 hours late, wife keeps saying she's waiting. I leave work and MIL answers phone. She's in catheterization unit getting clots removed and a stent in addition to a raging infection but didn't want me to worry. I appreciate the desire to not worry me but that's not the way to do it.

And that is why I never bothered getting my recerts, or going further than the A4/5/6/7 that I originally had. I felt like it was mostly a cash grab.

I'm mostly doing it because he pointed out that his liability insurance would be lower if I had certification. Okay, fine, play to my money-saving angle.
