don't get either on your hootis

Get used to doing that for just a moment, which starts every time, you forget how long it takes to start a car.
It is a minor rant, after all.

For the last 8-9 years, the majority of cars I've driven have had some features that have become expectations. Two of which are annoyingly NOT on a rental Toyota I have right now: one touch start and auto lights that turn on with the wipers. Seems like every time I get into the car, it does not start fast enough, so it barely cranks and does not start. Drives me nuts that they don't have such a simple feature like that.
FWIW, Toyota does have and use that feature on other vehicles. The two that I've been in that have it (not counting Lexus) are the 4Runner (2007) and Avalon (2013).
At least on my Sonic, "lights on with wipers" is a feature that is switchable, somewhere deep in the menus.
so I ordered new brake rotors for my disco. I admit I screwed up and ordered rears instead of fronts (I will use them anyway) but only 1 shipped?!? Who ships just a single brake rotor?

People demanding i hold it until next month when their money is in order. People ignoring the pat of CALL between 8am and 8pm. Its almost mot woth the sum total 200 asking price. berkeleying peiple blow goats man.

Drives me nuts that they don't have such a simple feature like that.GM SUVs tend to have one touch start. GM pickups tend to not. PCM controls the starter relay. One touch start is in the software for all of them. They all use the same computers and firmware. It's a radio button in HPTuners to enable (or disable) one touch start. The only difference is $60,000 SUV versus $30,000 work truck. Any time I find myself in a pickup or a "lesser" car, I find myself touching the key and hearing the starter go NGHk because I have been conditioned to just touch the key. I swear, next time the shop truck is in for service, I *will* enable one touch start just on general principle.
I was pleased to find the U-Haul GMC cutaway-van-based 9' box I drove last week had the one-touch start. I briefly tapped the starter key position like on my wife's 2007 4Runner, and it ran the starter exactly enough to start the engine. That GM, at least, had it. I didn't catch the year, but it only had 6,000 miles on it and smelled of rubber floor mats, so I think it was pretty new.
if one touch start is "turn the key once and it cranks until started" then GM has had it since 2003. My mom's Rendezvous has it. I find it more annoying than anything else.
In reply to mad_machine:
It's when you expect it, and the car you are trying to start doesn't have it, is annoying.
It's like, "You have to use your HANDS? That's like a baby's toy!"
In reply to mad_machine:
It's annoying that the car starts every time regardless of the key time?
That makes no sense to me.
This is another useless function that makes cars more complicated than they need to be. My 05 Colorado has it. I don't know that I have ever conscientiously used it. I hold the key until it starts, just like I do with every other vehicle in my fleet. It's not complicated to do and costs me near zero effort.
Just another function that leaves me wondering why.
Didn't that come from Cadillac? "Our engines are so quiet, (and our drivers so old and deaf) we need to keep people from hitting the key twice."
As a mechanic, it is irksome. Sometimes I want to just bump the starter.
Not as troublesome as the "not quite off" position that means you have to hook up a battery charger to change ball joints or brake pads...
The aftermarket sunroof in the Tribute was allegedly disabled at some point. Well, today my wife bumped the button and it opened. Won't close though. So that's nice.
Oh, and they don't have an emergency manual close override. Cause that would make sense.

No, never!
Obligatory rant: ex roommate is still mad at me, still hasn't gotten all of his E36 M3, still hasn't given me his key.
And despite not putting his stuff on the curb, I'm still the bad guy.
Pro tip: don't live with friends.
stayed up until 1AM soldering kids glasses back together.
Wife won't let them stay because leaded solder in the hinge.

If it's the store bought solder for plumbing or electrical, there is no lead in it. Which is why it sux. If it's the solder used in stained glass windows, that has lead in it. Which is why it works.

I think it's leaded, but I am not home to check.
I was being real clever, too, the hinge broke so I made another from a piece of a hack saw blade and the solder held it together.
The wife was unimpressed.
Car randomly turned off pulling into my driveway last night. Fired right back up and couldnt get it too repeat the behavior.

This is how the worst days start
I cut my right index finger pretty good a few days ago. May have been the most bleeding I have ever done. I had to stop what I was doing and duct tape a paper towel to my finger and then hose off the area to wash off all the blood that dripped. It very well may have needed stitches, but after 3 days of trying to keep the finger mostly straight (cut is close to a joint, so bending caused it to gape open and bleed.) it pretty much closed up on its own. Yesterday I went to see my doc about it because it still hurt and it was a bit Bob Costas. Mrs TJ was worried about infection. Good news it that they told me to keep up with the neosporin and band aids that I have been doing. Bad news is that I have to get a tetanus shot. Oh, well, that is not much of a rant.
