All the major fab work on the challenge car is done!
Got myself a 1x30 belt sander and bench grinder from Harbor Freight and I'm 2 handmade knives into my new obsession. They look like Ray Charles made them with his feet but I'm having cheap fun in the garage again.
Spent a lot putting a roll bar in the Samurai for a mud arena event last weekend, but 2nd place and $150 prize money puts some breathing space back between me and bankruptcy! Woohoo! Now I don't feel so bad about the ~$250 in damage I did to the Samurai in the same event.
I bought a B5 Passat last fall and have been tinkering with it all winter. Today I drove it over to a friends' shop where I discovered it needed more work than I care to give it but that one of the technicians is interested in it. We agreed to a fair price that will get him a car and me a few bucks.
Found out today my region is in talks with dc region to use Frostburg for a rally cross event.
Locally we can find 12 people, I think we need to commit a few more, but I'm hopeful.
All of a sudden this week my 03 Golf was grinding every time I went into 2nd gear. Odd, because it never does that. Occasionally I will get a little quick on the clutch and grind 3rd gear, but never 2nd. Weird that it has come on all of a sudden.
So I Saturday morning I headed off to the local auto parts store. Picked up 3 qts of Synthetic 75W-90 GL-4 Gear oil. Headed home and that afternoon went after the gearbox. Fill hole plug removed first (as always) and then went after the drain plug. Had to use a cheater to get the drain plug out. Out came what was probably the original gear oil.
Fresh gear oil in and after a few drives, no grinding. In fact the car has never shifted better.
I scored chunks of a 31 model a pickup cab today. One of my bucket list cars. Had it built in my head for a decade now.
Best part? I got PAID to take it away!!

Lucas makes a synthetic GL-4 rated one as well. VW has their own but it's probably 4 times the price. 02J's (Mk4 5 spd's ask for GL-4)
the time sheets are posted, I actually beat a 17 challenger, by a solid .4 seconds on our best runs. It's nice seeing names under mine on the time sheet for a change.

If your region is serious about starting a rallyx program I can put you in touch with a site owner nearish pittsburgh (eastern ohio). We haven't done anything with it since it is a couple hours from our normal sites.
Newest addition to the family LS430 with 205k miles made the 12 hour, 600+ mile round trip to Vegas with no issues
Thanks to a fellow GRM'er, I received a used Miata cruise control module that restored functionality to my cruise control after being inop/dodge for about 2 years.
Took the vatozone crapped out alternator back today and using the previous owners' number got a new one at no cost to me. Plugged it back in when I got home and one more car is back on the road. Easy and free, my favorite sort of car repair!

Right now I think they're looking for a one off event, but I'll pass the word up the ladder.
For autocross we average 25 people, barely enough to keep going, and a lot of them drive in from other regions.
We've got 12, maybe 15 people interested locally. im hoping joining forces with another region that regularly hosts rally cross events will net us a decent turnout.
Honestly it makes me laugh, the places closest to us are all being left because they're too far from their region base, but they're also right at the edge of how far people are willing to travel from our region.
6 million worth of equipment installed and tested clean. 2 months of my life I will never get back but man did I get it done fast. July was the expected date.
This is split between small victories and 1st world problems. Due to some mild insomnia I was up late. I made use of it by diagnosing the inoperable A/C compressor in my car. It turned out to be the cheapest and easiest possible fix, the relay. The last 3 days had been up to 90, and now the 15 day forecast is all 60's.
Elementary school field day. They said no parents on the paper they sent home. Then they called asking for me to help. And there's a blow up waterslide.
I broke the aod by mis-installing it. I sold it for what i had in it to a local guy, found a three speed stick to replace it with, and rockauto has the clutch and flywheel on closeout. Im actually going to break even assuming something dont bite me in the ass.
