Name a crappy execution of a movie that could be remade as a good one.
John Carter
Hunger games. Remove the reality TV game show element and make it into a gritty competition where regions or districts nominate their own most physically gifted and the winning district gets an allocation of resources and political power over losing districts.
Lets talk about how Point Break should not have been remade.
I'd say The Omega Man but I Am Legend covered that
I'd like to see The Hobbit remade as 1 (or maybe 2) movies by the same Peter Jackson that made LOTR, instead of the illiterate ADD kindergardener that he was apparently possessed by when he made the second trilogy.
And ditto Point Break. It sucked the first time. This will suck with a much bigger budget.
I would say Westworld, but HBO has that covered nicely. Also, best casting call ever.
True Lies, and The Last Action Hero. So much potential in both concepts, such poor delivery on both.
Can Mad Max have a reboot-reboot? I've read some really good fan-fiction of the time line from Mad Max to the Road Warrior, and there are some great ideas out there.
One thing that I don't like about most modern remakes of classic Sci-fi and action movies is that they tend to way over do it with CGI. I'm not against CGI, I just don't like in every possible nook and cranny in a movie.
I think we should start a new thread on movies that should not be remade because the original can't possibly be improved upon.
For example, I'm dreading the remake of The Magnificent Seven. How about just restoring/remastering the original? I'd pay to see that.
To give credit where it's due though, the remake of True Grit was a pleasant surprise, I was expecting crap, it was great, maybe better than the John Wayne version.
Apparently "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" needs to be remade to make everyone else happy. I loved it, but it got bad reviews.

I'm with you; I liked it quite a bit. I thought it was a fine movie, except they cut out all the hot sex between Quartermaine and Mina Harker that happened in the graphic novel.

At the moment, I wouldn't give Peter Jackson a crack at an industrial safety video, after how putrifyingly bad The Hobbit trilogy was.

The Japanese movie that its loosely based on Battle Royale has all the reality tv elements stripped out of it.
Peter Jackson is quite a WWI aircraft buff. I'd like to see him remake "The Blue Max" with real airplanes and no cg.
"I am Legend" sucked E36M3. "The Omega Man" was far superior.

Watch "battle royale" on Netflix. Its Japanese.

But then it wouldn't be the Hunger Games, and misses a major political part of the storyline.
Would be a good movie though.

You'd have to find different source material, then. The movies follow the books fairly closely, at least according to my kids, who've read them.
Oooh! I just thought of a really good one, we've talked about here briefly before too.
STAR BLAZERS!
There was a recent Japanese film based on the cartoon from the seventies (Battleship Yamamoto), it wasn't half bad, with the right Hollywood production it could be awesome.
The Hitchhiker's Guide to The Universe. The movie was forgettable, and not at all what the books deserve.

I wouldn't say it sucked, it was enjoyable in it's time. But I don't think a remake was necessary.

WHAT????? One of the greatest Westerns of all time, won a pile of Oscars, 95% on RT, in the IMDB Top 250. It's just fine the way it is. Honestly, name me one other actor who could portray William Munny and his inner conflict.

Anything from the last 10-15 years that started life as a book, and some from ever further back.

I'll give THHGTTG a pass because every different medium is a different canon. The movie is different from the game is different from the TV show is different from the books is different from the radio play, but not really in a bad way.
Some would say that this is a result of the Guide Mk2's meddling. Others refuse the acknowledge the existence of "Mostly Harmless".

They do. Sadly with less nudity.
