I'm still trying to figure out what to make of this. Hopefully my long history on this board will keep me from being canoe'd.
I am the new Editor of Classic Cars & Parts magazine.
My name officially goes on it next month. Right now I'm trying to get up to speed with all of the things that make a monthly magazine tick. It really is a ton of stuff (hats off to the GRM staff, I now appreciate you that much more). I'm still going to be the Editor of AutoTraderClassics.com so balancing everything is going to be fun. I have already warned my new coworkers that I have bizarre automotive tastes. I must say I never thought I'd go back to print, but here I am.
Just thought you guys would get a kick out of this.
Way to go! Nice to see you leaving xxxx-xxx in the dust.

A certain Jeep driving, motorcycle riding, hockey playing middle aged frat boy may be getting a magazine gift subscription soon....
Wow, what an awesome job!
CONGRATS, DUDE!!! That's awesome. Will you be working at the Atlanta HQ? I did a lot of the framing there.

Wow, congrats!!!
That's pretty much my dream job. Must be nice to write about cars all day and get paid something for it. I wish I could figure out how to get into that business.

Thanks folks. Oldsaw was there I when I started in this business over a decade ago. At last count I had 80+ restoration car part catalogs to my credit. The road hasn't been easy, that is for sure. Those 10 years I spent going to school at night for my B.A. seem worth it now. I figured my experience in print catalogs would translate to magazines. It does...kind of. It is actually kind of nice to get back to hard deadlines but there are so many more deadlines for producing a magazine. Art, cover shots, advertising, layout, proofing, and more. I have a spreadsheet from hell to keep things organized.
It won't be easy, but it is one of the jobs I thought would be cool to someday hold.
Congratulations! Will we still be seeing you at the Mitty?
(Which, speaking of in-house canoes, you can buy tickets for now.)
Congrats! I am saddened by the disappearance of the usual Auto, Truck, Cycle trader pubs, but still pick up the Classic version from time to time.
Well that didn't last long. I am now the Ted McGinley of the magazine editor world. We just ceased publication of all magazines to concentrate on our online business. A lot of good people lost their jobs but the company did step up and make sure they were taken care of. Sad to see it go but I'm excited about getting to really concentrate on the website. I was already running the website content so I'm just back to doing that (not a bad gig). Oh well, at least I got my name on the magazine masthead for a few months.
Glad you were not one that lost the whole job.
Hang tough.
Make the website what you wanted the printed copy to be. Surely there's got to be room for something more than ads..I actually like Hemmings more nowdays than I did years ago, because they've added the articles. Sorry it didn't work that way for AutoTrader as well.
I like the cut of your jib. Keep up the good work, I hope it improves soon!

Well, it sounds like the best of a non-desirable situation. Sounds like you're still pretty well valued.
