Some of you guys sure put a lot of thought into the motivating reasons behind very inconsequential things.
I like pie.
I seem to have gotten some interesting and insightful answers which has led to my deeper understanding of the underlying issue. Which seems to be that I can't discern whether I am providing useful information and when I am just stroking my own ego.
So clearly I am the problem. Now I have to figure out how to fix that.
Thanks to those who provided thought-provoking responses.
What you actually said is insightful and interesting, as Duke said above all interaction is the same and I'm often in a room full of people waiting for their turn to speak so sitting back and listening can't hurt.
None of that was self promoting was it?

BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M SUPPOSED TO BE MAD ABOUT!!!!!
I think most responses on this forum are a legitimate attempt to help the discussion and/or lighten the mood, not to stroke an ego. That's why I really like this place. Now reading YouTube video comments is like bathing one's genitals in acid. So I'd say it depends upon what part of the Internet you are referring to.

LOL. Thanks for that image, NOT!
In human conversation, some manage to be insecure and others manage to be confident. I know for a fact that neither is a yardstick for intelligence.
As you age, you tend to give fewer berkeleys about what others think... OR you over-think everything, usually to the detriment of your mental health.
So avoid things that cause you angst and do things that cause pleasure. If going silent makes you feel better, then do it.
OP is right. But...
Really, we're all just posting to help GRM rank higher in internet popularity. Anyone looking for Berkeleys or E36 M3s are ushered right here. Keep it up, you foul-mouthed bunch of unicorn humpers.
YMMV. The classic, and classy, way of admitting that while you may have just posted something very authoritative sounding, you could just be talking out of your ass.
I have found that I agree with Evan. If I cannot contribute something meaningful to an article (such as a different perspective or additional info), I will not comment. The only exception is to ask a non-volatile, non-political question of the commentariat.
But as a counterpoint to this, the comments on this article are far superior than the article itself.
