OK, so I'm out running errands and I see this sign that says harbor Freight opening soon. Its maybe 2 miles from my house. Until now I've had to drive way West or East, like 30 to 40 minutes travel time, so I had to actually figure mileage costs into whether it was worth it or if I should just pick up some regular tools at Lowes, etc. Now I can pick up HF stuff whenever. There isn't much I really need, but I'm building a fence and a deck this summer so I know there will be some related purchases, all 20% off at least as you all well know with some free junk thrown in for good measure.

I can't really tell many of my friends, they won't know what I'm talking about about so I'm taking it to the board. My area has a Lowes, a Home Depot and a Menards literally within two square miles. Now a Harbor Freight as well. I've been thinking the area needed one.

I've got a Lowes, Home Depot, True Value, all within a mile. I have to drive a whole five minutes to go to HF. It is handy...

My harbor freight is on the way home from work. Just far enough that I'm not there every day, which is probably good.

Same scenario by me. There's one about 15 minutes from work, opposite direction from home. Last Saturday I saw a temporary banner up in my town about 2 miles from home, in what used to be a sporting goods store. Much more convenient, and we have lower sales tax further from Cleveland.

Awesome, I used to work for Harbor Freight (Import Customs Coordinator followed by Manufacturing Planner) and I still like to rummage around in their stores even if I don’t need anything…it’s like Junkyard Wars only the junk is new; sorta’ kinda’

The last time I checked, I was still the model in their welding glove and welding smock mailer photos.

Anyway, congratulations.

Lowes doesn't sell hammers?

There's one 5 min South of work, but UALR owns the building they're in, and apparently plan to use it for classrooms or offices or some such nonsense, so HF is moving to NLR about 25 min from work, and even further from home.

Even with one so close, I still buy online and ship to my house, except I learned my lesson on buying heavy stuff online, after receiving 2 destroyed 4x6" bandsaws in a row. Berkley you FedEx!

I have a HF about a mile and a quarter from me. I used to go all the time. I stop by for carbide lathe inserts every other month or so, look around for a while and walk out with nothing else.

I will admit the temptation of that 72" US General box is strong.

Be prepared to come home with 1000s of zipties and 100s of feet of heat shrink tubing and maybe a meat slicer

…is that what they’re calling their radial arm saws these days???

I was in a Harbor Freight a few weeks ago and I noticed that they now sell wheelchairs.

Now that’s bundling…”buy any one of our six foot or greater ladders and get 20% off the purchase of a wheelchair."

Here’s a fun prank to take the hammer joke to a new level…

Grab a replacement motor (say 1/3 Hp) and a roll of duct tape and ask the cashier “how much for this paint mixer”.

When you’re told “that’s not a paint mixer” say “sure it is, your motors are so poorly balanced, they work great as paint mixers”.

I'd like to buy one of Harbor Freight's big solar panels. They've gotten pretty cheap with a coupon, but I'm afraid if I buy one I'll be marked for death by the big oil and coal companies.

That might take a minute to see hoe the new store impacts sales, but would truly rock.

Funny you should mention that. I have actually never bought a hammer at HF. Not the kind of tool I would use HF for. I'm also a bigger guy, so I have avoided HF ladders. I'm sure they are fine, but me with tools and/or paint, etc., is a heavy load.

My nearest HF is a good 45 minute drive, so I don't go as often as I would if it were closer. I used to have on near work when I lived in AL and it was my go to lunchtime routine to hit HF with a 20% coupon and pickup stuff I didn't really need and whatever free items they had that week. I have a Lowes that is about 10 miles and a Mom and Pop hardware store that is about 7 miles away. Home Depot is at least 30 miles.

Harbor Freight is a couple of hundred yards from work. I drive by it on the way to lunch and on the way home.

If HF ever stops the "free" coupons, I'm the reason.

O'reilys, Advance, and Napa are within walking distace...
