Is it wrong that I want to see the movie just because it pisses them off?
We were talking about it at work the other day about how could you possibly make a movie that offended everyone. And then if you did how much money would you make. Cause think about it everyone would hear how offensive it was to someone and then curiosity might make them watch it. We get bored sometimes.

It's impossible to offend everyone, but the movies that come closest do very badly at the box office - if they are shown in theaters at all.

South Park did it... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tale_of_Scrotie_McBoogerballs

See? You can't buy better marketing than this.
It's impossible to offend *everyone,* but the movies that come closest do very badly at the box office - if they are shown in theaters at all.
Borat did pretty well didn't it?

Borat was far from universally offensive, even with the "fight" scene. Mostly, it was really making fun of Americans.
It's hard to make something that even approaches being universally offensive without resorting basically to gore, horror and exploitation...Idiocracy might actually be one of the closest without doing so.

It "tanked" because Fox basically killed the movie on purpose. They throttled back the release to almost zero locations because they thought it was too controversial.

The only people who were offended by Borat were those who were exposed to be gigantic bigots. USC FTW!

"Two unsuspecting fraternity boys want to make lawsuit against Borat over their drunken appearance in the hit movie." Hahaha I see what they did there
The Kazakhstan government also got upset about the movie and wrote an angry open letter to Sacha Baron Cohen, so he posted on Borat's blog, in character, a link to the story with the comment "I support the persecution of this Jew"

they also thought it was too stupid and no one would want to see it...and they were probably right.. but it worked for the best, because it's the kind of movie that you are supposed to discover on accident either in the $5 bargain bin at Wal Mart or on HBO at 2 am while you are just kind of randomly flipping thru the channel guide..
I can't think of one person who saw "Freddie Got Fingered" and wasn't a little put off. No one ever said, "Yeah...I'm OK with that movie."

People also don't like seeing their own hypocrisy thrown back in their face.

Then the people you know in real life, in fact, suck at life.
That movie is berkeleying hysterical!

Yeah there was a scene in the movie that made fun of Fox News specifically. Way harsher than any of the jabs in The Simpsons. I remember I was sick the first time I watched it and I had to pause the movie there because I couldn't breathe.
