(Nothing But) Flowers

Ha, not a thread about the Talking Heads.

But, rather, flowers. I snapped these while out back waiting for the dog to do her business.

Credit for these goes to my wife. 

Passionflower in the middle? We grow these crazy in deland. 

these are at my brothers house.  They put out a ton of good fruit too. Good juice at least.

The highways and cars

Were sacrificed for agriculture

We started a "wildflower" garden behind my shop a few years ago and have had some good ones. My favorite are the floxglove; they did nothing the first year then exploded in a riot of color.

We also have a flowering crabapple tree that's lovely:

And these guys I planted one year because they said they were deer resistant, a very important thing in our yard. The weird thing is I swear it said they were annuals and not only have they stuck around, they stay green all winter. So perinnial AND evergreen? Sorta? I don't remember the name:

Then this one was at my cousin's farm; it's a thistle flower just starting to bloom and I love the color gradient on the petals. Green, then green with purple, then a purple gradient, then all purple. I think that's pretty cool:

I can't get used to this lifestyle

But I do find that scattered wildflower seeds are the gift that keeps on giving, and a spectacular substitute for having any idea what we're doing or time to tend the front lawn.

My orchids are doing fairly decent.  Most of the rest are on decline as its hot, but they were pretty.

OH NO, NOT THE BEES!

Oh! this one is special to me.
This is my grandmother's rosemary plant.  I got it maybe 5-7 years ago from Dad, the weather got too cold up there with him so it wasn't doing well and I'm on about the same latitude of grandma and grandpop's place.   Dad can't ever remember it blooming.  Its possible this is the first time it has in 50+ years.

Now it's a peaceful oasis

Normally we have nothing but low maintenance plants on the acreage, but this spring Mrs Frog went crazy.  We have thousands of flowers.  And with the last two weeks having highs above 100, lots of care and water to keep them going.  I now remember why we don't do this every year.

The cholla by the driveway had a good year. It peaked a couple of days after this pic.  It was absolutely mobbed by bees.

Do not pet the flowers.

Fun thread!  We have had great luck with the beds around our house; several varieties of iris, day lilies, hydrangeas and a mix of wildflowers pin one of the beds. Somehow something seems to be in bloom from late April until the fall.  

We inherited some of it from the previous owners and I’ve had luck propagating the wild iris and day lilies by collecting the seed pods in the fall.

This is from the first roll of C-41 film I developed in Clayton F76+ B&W developer.  Probably my favorite roll from that experiment as well.

For us, flowers mean happy bees. That's catnip, by the way. Pictures are right now at 7:30 pm. .
