And with enough amps, your ability to live.
Once when I was sold to a major outsourcing company, who I won't mention by name but THEY berkeleyING BUILT THE OBAMACARE WEBSITE FIASCO, a Project Manager told me to code something per the spec document. I told him that the data was not structured that way and it wouldn't work, and suggested the proper way to do it. We went back and forth and eventually he sent me an email that said "I don't care if it works or not! You code it how it's written!" I kept that email. It got sent around a lot, right up the food chain to the executive VP on the account when the code I wrote, per his direction, didn't work. Or, should I say the code (SQL) worked fine, but the data set was "not as expected." The VP called me up after he got the copy of the email and we chatted. He said "Just fix it the right way, and if you EVER get another email like that, send it to me first." So I fixed it and told my boss (not the PM) that I would never work with that shiny happy person again, and I didn't care if they fired me over it. My boss said that the rest of the team already told him that. A couple years later, an email comes around with the same name on it and directions to work with him. I escalated to 10 immediately and was told "No, no, it's not the same guy. Look in the address book. The middle initial is different..."
Anyway, do it right or don't do it. That's what I do now.
