So my Nexus 5x arrived today and I've got it activated and using it now.
I was able to back up my Samsung Galaxy S6 edge +, how can I get my contacts and photos from that backup onto the Nexus. I'm just finding stuff going to a Galaxy, not the other way around.

If you backed up to google, you're golden. Just need to go into whatever app (photos, contacts, whatever) and sync with whatever Gmail account you chose to back to. If you didn't....and you still have the old phone, back it up to a gmail acct, make sure it has all the things, and then reload the one on the new rig. Last time i had to port, i had everything from my last 3 phones on this one before the goober at tmobile figured out how to use a cash drawer. Its pretty fast.
No, it seems the only way to back up the Galaxy is with Samsung Smart Switch, which I used. But now I want to get that info into the Nexus 5x
If you've a google account, and your old phone was synced to it, and use used the Google features, it's just as mndsm said.
But if you didn't, you're pretty much on your own and get to do it manually. Unless Nexus has a data transfer app like say Motorola does.

Im sure they do. The gs6 should still allow you back to google. Ive gone htc sensation > nexus4> nexus5 > note5 without much of an issue. All phones were synced to google.
