Just got back from the OBX. A word of caution, traffic from Richmond to Corolla is HORRIBLE Saturday and Sunday. Take more scenic back roads and travel mid-week and you will be fine. (or late night) I love taking the long way around Norfolk and seeing the scenery, the whole area is just so cool.
If you stop in Columbus I am sure a few of us would be up for a beer at Barons place. Keep us updated.

You can also stop at Grave Digger World Headquarters and go for a monster truck ride.
The plan is changing,. I am working next week, but I now have 6 weeks off. I am considering riding my bicycle to Richmond.
Has the adventure begun? We are all on this road trip with you, Godspeed
A couple of the Outer Banks islands are without power for a while so that might affect plans.

Call before you dig? It takes brains to be that stoopid.
Never been to Richmond. The Nascar night race is Sept.9
I worked last week, now I have at least 5 weeks until I need to be back. My plan is to leave Flint 8 or 8 days from now. I will keep you all posted.
Please do, and again if you end up down my way let me know, would be my pleasure to show you around.
If you need a day trip, come across the state and hit the Gilmore Car Museum and/or the Air Zoo. Either/both are worth a day trip.

There's a whole connected trail that goes from Pittsburgh to DC, and even better is going that direction is downhill.
Once you get to Richmond, there's a 60 mile fully paved and removed bike trail from downtown to Williamsburg/Jamestown. Virginia Capital Trail. If you don't feel like arrainging for car drops and such my friend's own/operate a shuttle service (Cap Trail Bike Shuttle).
Thanks for all the tips and suggestions. The trip is starting Wednesday, August 9th. I have made a change in vehicles, I am taking my 78 Ford f150 and towing my Hobie cat and 14' Jon boat. My friend Craig has Friday and Monday off work and the key to a cabin on some Arm o Chesapeake bay. I might need a spot to sleep somewhere about halfway between Flint and Richmond if I don't feel like driving straight through. I will have camping gear. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, Braden

Do you want to stay around Pittsburgh? Campground or crash on a friendly couch?
I was thinking campground or park, but I would consider a couch or backyard camp out.
Do you have a proposed route to Richmond? I'm sure someone here would like to buy you a biscuit or a beer. I'm not anywhere near a conceivable route or I'd buy you both. Please keep us posted.
Lexington is available if you come down I-75. Armstrong390 at the yahoo email place.
I have been looking at traveling through Columbus, then Parkersburg or Charleston and camping some place in that area.
I arrived in Richmond VA about 9pm Thursday . I drove 762 miles from Flint to Richmond in a little over 13 hours, in a 1978 Ford F150. After I parked it I noticed heavy smoke from under the hood
When does the sailing start? Relax and enjoy your vacation. Sailing pics would be awesome plz.

Hope the truck's ok. I'm looking forward to reading about your adventure. Not sure if you'll be passing through Raleigh, NC, but if so let me know and I'd be glad to grab dinner with ya.

My in-laws live in Parkersburg, I grew up there but haven't lived there since 1989. I wouldn't have stopped there either if it wasn't home.
Was the smoke anything serious ? Hope it is easily fixable. Can't have anything spoil your journey.
Damn if you're still in RVA let me know if you need anything.
