Why do they all stink? I've purchased a half dozen over the years, done research, bought blindly, bought cheap, bought good, used OEM ink, used cheap ink, used wired, used wireless, and they all have one thing in common, They are all terrible. Why is that?

Inkjet printers are all terrible and none of them are good enough to have a good scanner attached to them.

We have a Brother MFC-8910DW at work. It is great.  I think about the lowest cost per page (B&W Laser) there is.  I'm thinking of getting one for the house.  Not cheap, though.  Pay up front or pay later.

They all suck, but HP seems less sucky thsn most. I had the worst luck with Epson.

How much do you use it? Inkjets seem to work better, longer, if you use them daily so the inkjet heads don't dry out. I have an HP Pro MFD (Multi-Function Device) and it's used quite a bit and has lasted a few years so far. Pro level machines are better than the consumer level stuff, too, so... you get what you pay for usually (if the printer costs the same as or less than the ink refills, it's going to be crap).

HP knows that their InkJet printers aren't where the money is, the money is in the ink, so they design the products to only use their ink and their cartridges.

Its actually cheaper to simply replace the printer when the ink wears out or expires, donate the old one and get the write-off and move on.  Go and compare the costs of a new multi-function device and the cost for new ink cartridges and print heads, you'll see there isn't much difference and you have to run their cartridges or the printer won't work or work as well.

Epson used to be above this sort of stuff, but to compete they've resorted to similar methods.

Generally, if it isn't a laser printer, its junk and expect they'll have a short life (even the cheaper laser's are starting to become junk).

I'll add an agreement to saying that inkjets are junk.  They always have been.  Stick to laser, preferably HP.  That being said I currently have a french samsung all-in-one at work that should be perfect as my dad has the american version for a few years now and has been reliable and reasonably good on toner.  It has both wired and wireless ethernet capability.

If you are going to spend money, buy HP and stick with HP toner.  Mine was free, otherwise it would have been HP

Laser is the way to go.

If only someone made a good reliable autofeed scanner that worked for 8x11 pages or color pictures. I'd love to load a stack of 30 5x7 pictures into a scanner and walk away as it does it's thing.

I worked in the office equipment industry for almost 15-years. Ink jets are basically all disposable. When I needed a decent printer I bought a small, but office-class Konica-Minolta Magicolor 1690mf.

I got it online for less than I could get it at cost, which was around $250 about 6 or 7 years ago. There are no driver's for Win 10, and no workarounds that I was able to find. I've never even had to replace the color cartridges

We bought a cheap Epson inkjet to replace it - I'll never buy a new HP, and I was certified on them.
