Snow tires + winter driving school are the answer... see local example (http://www.mco.org/cms/). Took my 16 year old son to this yesterday - he had a blast in his 23 year old Accord... Instructor told him he had the perfect car to learn vehicle dynamics because there was no traction control and ABS to restrict the sliding... Instructor kept pulling the handbrake to surprise him
