Budget: $150, give or take, to my door
Car: Crappy old and stupid loud/vibrate-y 1990 MX6 GT, rear seats removed
Other gear: Kenwood Excelon KDC-X996, Focal Solid 1 mono amp, Soundstream REF2.640 for comps, FA SX10 sub in sealed box.
Problem: I waited until today to order the JBL P660Cs from Sonic, and now they're out of stock. Not available on Amazon Prime, and i'm not sure i trust Ebay seller "techronics" to ship in time even if i pay for 2 day shipping.
I need these things here Tuesday night, Wednesday at the latest. Car is driving a few states away on Thursday, and i don't feel like listening to this awful-sounding motor the whole way. (Bumper dumper exhaust.)
The players, including shipping details:
1) Sony XS-GS1621C - $176 shipped, Amazon prime, arrive in plenty of time
2) JBL P660C - $154.24 shipped, Ebay, hopefully processes order in time
3) JBL MS-62C - $180 shipped, Sonic is shipping from Louistucky, should be here in time
4) Pioneer TS-D1720C - $100 shipped from Sonic. The old standby, i'm cool with these if i have to buy them again, but i kindof wanted to try something new.
Tell me what to buy!

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Did you read the original post?
Speakers? Uhh, can't help you, those don't change how the car drives
I'd suggest the Pioneers just based on the low price and the fact that you know how good they'll be...
I still say your local evil empire (walmart) is the best option, your not building a sound machine, just need a basic decently nice radio to get you from where you are to where you wanna go. nothing is gonna be cheaper than the basic selection at walmart, theyve even got some speakers to throw in too

Put the $150 towards a good exhaust with a cat and everything.
Why did i know this was the wrong forum to ask anything like this?
I mean... if i'm using Focal and Soundstream Reference amps, just... uhh...
Wow.

O.o Just buy the JBL's that will definitely get here in time.
Since you already have Focal and Soundstream stuff, get the nicer JBL's. I would CALL Sonic if this is a rush order. I've always had good luck with Sonic, but was never in a rush.
Do you HAVE to have components? Focal Access coaxial sound great, are usually around your budget.
I have no experience with anything you've listed. I've typically never cared for Sony car audio, and Pioneer is well, Pioneer... yeah, yeah, I own some Pioneer stuff to. No experience with JBL.
Alpine has never let me down, SPR-60C maybe?

Wow.
Or maybe this is the perfect forum to ask the question. Mind blown
See if anyone local (Best Buy? Frys?) has em in stock and pricematch? Otherwise, the sure bet Sonys on Amazon.

Doesn't have to be coaxials, but if i'm hacking up my doors to put speakers where none ever existed before, we're lucky i'm just asking about 6.5" 2 way components instead of an 8/4/1 3-way set.
I don't really feel like putting speakers in custom locations and powered by nice amps just to run coaxials, let alone $30 Wally World Pioneers.
I ended up actually taking a chance and going with the Sonys because they were a guarantee to be here in plenty of time, and specs and the reviews i found of the previous gen were actually surprisingly good. Supposedly the second coming of the old awesome ES Series.
If i hate them, i can always put something else in later.

For a fraction of the cost, i could have bought a pioneer headunit from wally world, too! And then just put 4" wally world pioneers in the dash in factory locations. And a set of 6.5" wally world pioneers in the rear deck in factory locations.
And then considered running my car at full speed into the nearest telephone pole during the entire 5.5 hour drive to MATG. Sounds awesome.
But hey, it's all worth it because i saved $300-$400 in the stereo setup of a car i'll be driving for the next decade or two!

The wally world solution was a cheap and easy solution to get you past this time constraint to when you have the time to get the setup you really want
Buy it right the first time, buying it twice only costs more money and time.
I learned that in high school.
I'm positive I wouldn't have been able to tell the difference between Wally world stuff and what you bought.

See, and I'd rather be in a quiet car with a junky stereo (it doesn't sound like it's junky as-is, either), vs. a loud car with a less junky stereo. I know these cars are not silent but they don't have to be horribly loud either.
Then again I recently took a three week long motorcycle trip where I spent days just listening to the wind. So, you know, consider the source of this statement.
This car will never be nice, quiet, or smooth ever again. Making it those things will cost performance and tons of money. I'm fine with that.
Car has had a junky stereo for 5 years. One working but blown rear speaker and a headunit with a display that shorts. Then I gutted every last bit of the factory stereo stuff down to the wiring harness when I removed 30lbs of wiring out of the car. There's nothing in the car currently, and i'm not going back to spending hundreds of hours in a car a year with no tunes.
Thanks everyone for the input.
I would have gone to the old standby TS-D1720C Pioneers. They're your old standby because they're pretty good speakers. They are also the cheapest available. Worst case scenario is that you switch them out for the JBL P660Cs And flog off the Pioneers to someone else, or keep them on your shelf just for times like this.
Then again, I'm the guy with a pair of just about every speaker size in his shelf, ready to be put in something, so this would never be a problem :p
