Helping my father change the batteries in his boat several years ago. Hot, heavy work down in the bilges of a boat.

Twin diesels, big batteries, it's not a bass boat is it?

In reply to 914Driver :

No, not exactly. The boat in question was a 2002 Symbol 42. She tips the scales at about 38k pounds.

The diesels are 330 hp Cummins 6BT marine engines. They will push the boat to 18-20 knots.

My father sold it a few years ago because at 82, it was more boat than he and mom could manage by themselves.

It's back on the market for the interested.

I can't see that without thinking about Parker Posey in Best in Show, desperately looking for a new Busy Bee. "You obviously don't know my dog!"

This is Francis, our first house bunny, at six weeks old. He lived to the ripe old age of eleven and a half and was blind for about half of that. Always a gentleman.

still nice this morning but one flower tube was falling so i propped it up.

the plant is Echinopsis Tubiflora. Hedgehog cactus but the long flower tube is unique to this species.

Dayville, CT. Cool place. Great local folks at the bar. Middle of nowhere on the road to Putnam. We've passed by it for twenty years. Tonight was the first time we stopped. No Wifi, not even in the parking lot.  We'll return because ... did I mention it's a cool place?

Oooh, I'd read about the X planes and the reason the Navy chose not to adopt them.

The idea was that the sub could ground if necessary, come closer to dock if necessary, since they could be sufficiently large and not extend beyond the horizontal or vertical spans of the boat.  The problem was that the doctrine for design required simple controls and minimal automation - this moves the control surfaces for up and down, that moves the control surfaces for left and right.  The X could only do that with a transfer box to convert "up/down" to certain motions on all four surfaces, "left/right" to certain other motions, and this would have been against that simplicity doctrine, so they said "No!"

At least, that according to whoever wrote the article.  He was also talking about how the doctrine also called for a certain, remarkably high, level of manpower required for day to day duties, for damage control and other reasons.
