You guys will like this. A lot!

It's one of the funniest movies I've seen.

You do, however, have to be able to put up withe the strong language and thematic issues. They are spys and contract killers, so the humor is frequently off-color.

I liked the first one, but this one far surpassed it.

Is this a Star Wars reference?

It was terrific. I liked RED a lot, so was a little apprehensive, but we watched it while on vacation and it lived up to our hopes...

Definitely the far and away winner of the three movies we saw on vacation, the other two being The Wolverine (2nd) and RIPD (3rd, but still good for a laugh).

I'm, ahhh, going to go ahead and, ummm, disagree with that sentiment.

I loved RED without qualification. Bought it on blu-ray at Walmart and have watched it several times since seeing it in the movies. RED 2 , on the other hand, was an enjoyable was to spend a couple hours.

I was happy I saw it and didn't feel cheated out of the ticket price... but there wasn't anything like the magic or vibe of the first one.

RED 2 suffers heavily from sequelitis. In the quest for bigger, better, faster, more more more, they lost quite a bit of the original feel that made the original so funny and engaging. It wasn't the worst follow-up ever made, or anything, but it could have been so much better if they had been able to resist the urge to try and out-do themselves.

In reply to Duke:

So, what I'm hearing you say is that we BOTH liked BOTH of them, right?

It's just a matter of degree.

Oh, yeah, I liked it, for sure. I was just mildly disappointed. But, frankly, the main reason my disappointment was mild was because I prepared myself ahead of time to expect it to be worse.

Saw it with the GF a few weeks ago, and both really enjoyed it. She'd loved the original when I'd shown it to her a few weeks earlier, and we weren't disappointed. I wouldn't put it as being better than the original, but it definitely did have its moments. I figured most of us would get the biggest kick out of the sequence in the drift car.

Thought it was good. By that I mean, I laughed occasionally, there were good car chases, lots of explosions, cars were sawed in half with a minigun, etc. What they didn't replicate was some of the clever/quirky humor of the first one: the frumpy "Walmart chick" assassin, Helen Mirren firing a Ma Deuce in an evening gown and heels, John Malkovich with the grenade launcher "home run swing", etc.

I was hoping for a reappearance of the "pig".

Just to give it a car reference, the airport scenes (at the end of the film) are at the same site as the Top Gear (UK) test track.

I was watching those scenes and kept thinking, "That looks a lot like where Top Gear tests".
