Readers' Digest version: Friend's sister ends up with dead husband's car, she doesn't want it. Friend asked me to make it run so he can give it to his nephew. Pass. Been sitting in a lean to for two years. I'm a nice guy, so I help my friend with his 15 or so gliders, the shop and his cars.
Today he told me he was going to talk to the sister, get her to relieve the car. Nephew lives in NYC and is quite happy without a car; not interested.
It's been through Probate with no resolution, paperwork is difficult to come by. IF I can come up with it, and IF paperwork is not available, now what? Can I put the undercarriage in a 911 shell? Swap stickers?
No, I don't need a 911 track car.
Thoughts?
That’s such a good looking color combo.
Whoops, just noticed the yellow piping, which is awful.
Friend's sister signs over power of attorney for the vehicle to you, assuming that she was/is executor of her husband's will. Then you can obtain title and register.
Talk to a lawyer, get possesion and title, sell on ebay for $162,000.
Its air cooled. Air cooled people are all nuts.
Well, Targas aren't that great as track cars anyway.
Get the title, get it running properly and either enjoy or sell on. It's a cool colour combo so unless it's got rust in the usual places, it'll probably go for a nice pile of cash on BaT.
I would drive the crap out of an old ass dragger. Hope you get the paperwork situated.

Wasnt this a "Porsche special wishes" car?

You need the suit to match the interior.
In Georgia we have something called a bonded title. If you are darned sure nobody will lay claim to a car, then the state will let you file for a bonded title. It takes a few legal steps though.
Not sure about where you are at, but selling an old car in Georgia only needs a bill of sale, title is optional.

Hey now!
I almost startled the pet squirrel I was breast feeding when I read that! How rude!
It should be the wife's car unless it's listed in husbands will to someone else. This should not be rocket science. She should be able to get the car retitled in her name, or sign title over herself as the executor, assuming she is. Or whoever the executor is can do it. Something smells just a little about the whole deal.
I actually like this car and don't usually like targas.
This isn't hard. I'm the executor of my fathers estate. His will stated I'm the executor and all assets when to trust. I am also the trustee of the trust. I've already signed 3 cars, out of 6, over to myself through the state of Michigan pre Covid. The executor has to distribute the assets of the estate. If they executor does not want to do their appointed duties, there should be a successor listed. If neither wish to do their duty, you are stuck with probate.
Just my non juris lawyering for exactly what you paid for it.
Edit- just reread where it has been probated. So who does the court say owns it? The trustee of the estate has not done their job.
I also like this car and would eventually deal with the yellow piping when the time was right. I bet I don't want to know how much it could be sold for.
I heard the McDonalds color was a "special wishes" car, it's growing on me. Guy worked in the garment industry of NYC, received this in 1982 as a yearly bonus. Sister and hubby were divorced or in the throws of divorcing, I don't know how it ended.
I'm not above something nefarious, but Sis was a model, he was older, he may have kids out there with some sense. I don't want to invest mega dollars getting paper and fixing just to have some guy walk up with a Sheriff and drive off with a 911.
Ooohhh, 914-6?
I've sort gone through this somewhat recently with my mother, her deceased husband's H-1 with a long lost/misplaced title (my mother did eventually find it months later), and getting the bike transfered to Nonack.
It really depends on the State, but in PA we just needed an owner's card (which my mother fortunately found), a death certificate stating my mother was the inheritor of his possessions (being the PITA he was, he left no will, of course...), and then it was just a matter of filing some paperwork through a local PA notary place. Some weeks later, my mother got a replacement title and we "sold" the bike to Chris.
Unless you really want to berk the people who will have to settle your estate, please make sure the paperwork for your various vehicles is at least all in one place and known, if not otherwise organized...
I would not want to part this car out unless there was simply no other way to move it on. It seems much more valuable as a car than as an engine donor to another 914 owner/dreamer (no offense to the 914 owners here).
Is there a lawyer helping settle the estate? Seems like lawyer support is going to be needed to make this neat and tidy and will go a long way to help.
I mean, air cooled Porsche, potentially free and or cheap. You have to try, if only so we can all live in a world where this sort of thing is still possible.

Yeah, I understand it went through Probate with no resolution. I have no idea how to interpret that.
how does something go through probate and be resolved? That is what Probate is for

That thing looks like it's a detailing and probably a new fuel system away from being a seriously nice condition (read: $$$$$) example. Put in a few weeks of work and a bit of money, sell for $25-30k, buy something that would make a better track car.

This. Your state probably has some sort of process for titling cars with sticky-situation paperwork similar to a bonded title; I'd look into that process.

My suggestion is figure out what you have to do to keep it, and then enjoy it until you're bored of it then sell it for something else.
Or I can buy it from you and do the same. Pre-Bring a trailer because I need my kidneys.
