So far this year the Model S has outsold its large luxury sedan competition, including the Audi A8, BMW 7 Series, Lexus LS, Jaguar XJ, Mercedes S-Class and Porsche Panamera. Despite being an electric car, Tesla seems to have hit the bulls-eye in its demographic with the Model S. The big boys have been put on notice.

I've seen 2, both black. I want one, in the most obnoxious color they sell.

what is "imposing" about the car in that pic? looks like any other mid to full size 4 door sedan to me.

The pic doesn't do it justice. I do not know what to point to, but Tesla nailed it on the styling. It's like the best points of a Maserati Quattroporte and late model Jaguar XK without feeling like it's aping anything. We get the occasional one up here and it is one of the few cars that always gets a second look from me when walking through Mendocino.

I saw a black one the other week. I couldn't remember what the front symbol was at the time but I was guessing it was electric from the lack of a v8 to v12 rumble I was expecting.

I have seen a couple. They do look really nice in person.

That is it. I have seen a handful and they do look very nice.

They are very good looking car but personally for that price I would still buy either Quattroporte or XJ.

Taking an instagram shot at 80mph was not the best, but it is wider and larger than I thought. More like and S-Class Mercedes than a Volt. Compared to the brazen Fiskar, I thought it was pretty boring from pictures, like a bland sedan. But it has real presence on the road, it stands out in a sea of Ford Taurii and such.

I see a bunch of them around here. Typically around one a day or so. But then again, I used to see an electric-converted Rabbit all the time (the "Electric Car" decal on each side was a clue...). There was a Tesla roadster I'd see from time to time as well.

My next DD will likely be a BEV or something classic (or both). I figure in about 10 years I'll be ready to replace the TDi and a BEV will be available in the style (wagon-ish) and price range ($30K-ish) I want.

Not me. To me the S looks better than those two and it should at least match them performance-wise. Costs a good bit less than a Quattroporte too, and then you don't have to feed a big thirsty engine.

The sound of the Quattroporte invalidates your argument.

There is one of these around where I live, and I do agree it has a nice sound.... but... it's almost like it has a fart can exhaust on it, because it's actually pretty loud and is always making the exhaust sound.

I have seen it do a normal acceleration from a light, and it was pretty loud, almost silly for how fast it was going. It seems like its a bit much. I saw the car again the other day driving through a parking lot a 5 mph and it still sounded like it was doing some sort of race car imitation.
