I think US 129 would be on there if it wasn't so highly traveled.
It's a dream of mine to hit a lot of those roads. My wife finds it odd that a road can be a destination.
spent some time living on #20 (pictured in 1st post).
everywhere you looked was something edible growing on the side of the road.

US 129 is fun and all, but the roads in the nearby Smoky Mountain National Park are far more scenic, and there are a lot more of them. Cant quite go as fast there, its more enjoyable to slow down anyways.
(maybe I am biased because I proposed to this sunrise?)
^^^ well done. You'll never look at sunrise the same again.
lots of the road in hawaii are pretty. this was somewhere north of hilo
I drove this road with the girlfriend in the Miata a couple weekends ago. I wouldn't dare to say it's on a top 100 list of best roads but it sure was fun. We only drove it 4 times, and the lady walking laughed at us and waved.

One of the reasons I moved to this part of the world.
I have a pic of my wifes car sitting in that exact pulloff near the tunnel. I was standing down near the creek facing back to the road so I didn't get a shot of the tunnel.
I've driven about 7 on that list. The Smoky Mountains are indeed gorgeous. So is the 17 mile Drive that runs along Pebble Beach and up through Carmel – it should be on there! Parts of the Alaska Highway are breathtaking and I was surprised how pretty Michigan is up near Traverse City –through the old fishing village and Bear Sand Dunes is a really nice drive.

Please tell us where this is.....if I'm ever in that neck of the woods I want to drive it.

+1
It's the end of the road in door county Wisconsin (last road on the absolute tip of the peninsula). Next stop the ferry to Washington island. Very nice 2 mile stretch. Door county in general has some nice relaxed cruising roads like that. Minimal elevation changes so few heavy corners and switchbacks (there is one) but overall a nice place to relax and drive around. The road from the coast guard station in sturgeon bay to cave point is wonderful.
The road into Zion national park from the east has to be one of the best on earth. You Must drive it sometime.
In reply to nocones: Daniels (nocones) got it.
The drive up from Sturgeon Bay to Whitefish Sand dunes is next up, that and the road on the bay side going north from Sturgeon Bay to Egg Harbor.
For those in the Midwest that have never been, Door County is a great spot for a long weekend either camping/BB'ing/Condo'ing while going to parks and boating. And they have some fun roads. That and the occasional wine tasting place.
It's only 100 or so miles north of Road America...

Yeah, that road out of Zion would be my suggestion. Best in a convertible, because the gorge walls are so close and high, you miss a lot of cool sights in a closed-top sedan.
There's a really short amazing hike right outside the east entrance of the tunnel through the mountain. It's got one of the best views in the park:
You can also include pretty much any drive through a West-coast national park on a list like this. The drives between and through Olympic, Mount Rainier, Crater Lake, and Redwoods national parks are amazing.
Damn, I'd sure hate to break down on the Lonliest Road in America....
Living here in the mid-atlanic, there aren't many drives I'd call scenic, at least not scenic in the sense they mean here. But I've been out to Denver a few times and driven out to the mountains. It is absolutely stunning out there. I found myself stopping every few minutes to take a picture. I'm going there again in two weeks and can't wait.
there are many many roads in the area that are really better choices than us129 ....less traveled, less patroled ... every bit as scenic ... all up and down the Tenn NC state line
I know that there's much better roads, but we were vacationing in Pigeon Forge and I knew it would be just a few hours excursion away. Also hit Fontana Dam while we were down there too. That thing is MASSIVE!

+1 I did the same thing for the same reason. We were up there for the rod run and decided to go drive the dragon while we were there
