Does GRM ever have an annual carshow and/or member gathering anywhere? Like a Midwest meet, Cali meet, Florida/East Coast meet? I think it'd be interesting if in some kind of middle ground there were a large meet for the GRMers. Does this exist and i've just not seen it around?
There's been more talk of meets... I'd love to see a Cali meet, but any time it's brought up it's always down in SoCal, ugh. I'm not driving the 5.0 to SoCal, especially not now with the 3.73s.
Though maybe if I got the Buick dialed in...
The big one is the Challenge, but there are also GRM events at Daytona and Road Atlanta.
Daytona and Road Atlanta are in adjacent states in the bottom of the country. I think it'd be awesome to have something in the Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky area since it's more in the middle of the midwest. That may be kind of selfish since i live in MN, but i just think it'd be cool to have it in a "middle ground" where it wouldn't be a 16-20 hour drive. :/
Well, the magazine is in Florida, so it's not surprising the big magazine events are also in that corner of the country. It's the same reason the California-based companies don't show up out east much.
But if you simply want to meet up with other folks from the forum, pick an event and get the word out!
In reply to Keith:
My apologies. I didn't know the magazine originated in Florida. (What a noob i am)

I think many others would be willing to go half a state away. Clem invited me two hours out and eventually I'll show up!

I know you have Stuart and I in MN as well, and I know there's a couple in western WI. You may well have seen me around if you ever go to say, Boost for Boobies or other events. Haven't been to ricekillers, or Eurowerks, but I know most of the metro area scenes. Big white guy+bigger beard+ black twins cap+black ms3 with MNMazda stickers all over it=me.
Yeah, we do member gatherings in a manner of speaking.
The Mitty is a favorite.
There's also the The GRM Experience at the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
Of course, the $20XX Challenge.
I also really enjoy the Ultimate Track Car Challenge.
I liked the idea of an event where we just get to show up and drive cars and eat food and (perhaps) even enjoy some malted hops and barley drinks, but we'd need a really good excuse to get all the way to California.

That sounds good to me as well. Minus the California part. I would just like GRM to get a bit bigger and more "all over the place," i guess.
That explains why Tom enjoys the Flyin' Miata Summer Camp so much
Sorry Tom, forgot about the UTCC.

When the hell did Kentucky sneak into the Midwest?
In reply to Osterkraut:
LoL, well it's kind of a nice compromise between midwest + Floridian corner.
Well you were actually pretty close to the mean center of the US population, which I'm pretty sure is somewhere in Southwest Missouri.
Well, some of y'all made it out to the 25hrs last year...

If you are looking for a Midwestern GRM / CMS meet-up the BRIC Vintage Race at Road America is a fantastic event that we always attend. ( Mid-July) It is one of my favorite events of the year. It is usually just Andy Reid and I working, but it would make for a great meet-up point.
We also always have a presence at the Monterey Historics, and our kick-off party at the Baja Cantina is a fantastic place to hang with other gearheads.
I guess it depends if you want to meet other readers, or our staff. Nearly the entire staff is at the Mitty, and Rolex events. (near the office) Other events we attend could be great meet-up points too.

Road America. Now that's more like it. :)

I can be found at Road America at least a couple times a year
What about Texas?
Gas prices are just too #$&% high to drive out to Florida every year.

I had thought of mentioning it, but it's such a great vacation I didn't want to let the secret out.
In reply to Tom Heath:
Where is that at?
@ Snowdoggie, My car runs on Premium, imagine how i'd feel! Well, actually i modded my car so it gets 47-51mpg hwy, but still, it'd be expensive just the same.
@CoryTate, Exactly.
@oldtin, I should show up to Road America in a GrassRoots MotorSports shirt sometime. I wouldn't mind seeing the NASA Regionals or something there. American Iron preferably.

The Flyin' Miata Summer Camp is held at the company headquarters in beautiful Grand Junction Colorado. If you own a Miata, you owe it to yourself to join them.
What I did over my summer vacation (last time I took one...)
More info (which is still mostly about the 2011 event).
By the way, Tom, I'm down in the 1:03 range on street tires now
In reply to Keith:
I don't think I could find 4-ish more seconds without an awful lot of practice or additional horsepower. Probably both would be advisable.
