Can you "gift" someone an album - or even better, a setlist on itunes? I can't figure it out. Surely there is a modern equivalent to a "Hey girl, I wanna make dem panties drop" mixtape(?)

Tequila. Maybe some Barry White?

Vodka. Isaac Hayes. Maybe that's my problem.

Yes. I understand apple says that I can gift a playlist. I'll be goddamned if they tell me HOW, hence the whole "I'm technologically retarded" thing.
Burn a CD. Seriously. It shows you put effort into it. Well, at least enough effort to have purchased the blank CDs to begin with

Or (this may blow your mind) a 1gig junk drive. Not only is it more modern, it's probably $5, comes with the muzak, and can then be used for many other purposes for time ever lasting. BOOM! Let the mind blowing commence.

Not sure how it works with a playlist but for songs or albums you hold down the "down" arrow next to the "buy this album" and click on "gift this".
Here's a related question. If making someone a modern mix tape, we still limit it to 90 minutes, right?
I think the proper method is to go for exactly 90 minutes, but make the last song cut off 2/3 of the way through what would have been a 92 minute playlist.
Alternatively, have 88 minutes of music, and a 2 minute track that is static.
And if you really dug her, you'd put it on a UD XL-II.
And speaking of tapes, why not enjoy this jaunty little tune about stealing music with cassettes, by Bow Wow Wow?

No corny jokes yet?

Just advance your timing.
Thank you, I'll be here all night.

As a bonus, that gives you the chance to lovingly calligraph the playlist on the window card, with illuminations hand-rendered in 4 different colors of Pilot Razorpoint (blue, black, red, and green).
If it doesn't have to be "permanent", you can put together (and share) a playlist on Grooveshark. http://grooveshark.com/
Probably a larger selection than itunes, too.

I always preferred TDK to Maxell. My 30-year old tape collection is almost exclusively on SA-90's.

That's what the Minutemen and Jerky Boys are for. The last song should be the big finish; the song the whole tape is leading up to. Cutoff song at the end says "I'm an inconsiderate shiny happy person who didn't put much thought into this."
