Yeah. berkeley yeah.
While I can't seem to limit myself to 10 songs, this would be in my top 10...I think.

My list has five decades represented... 1960s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and 2010s. And relies heavily on the past ten years. Hard to tell my true age from that.
Woohoo! My friend put my playlist together!

You are dead to me.
Everytime I hear that on the radio, I literally scream (surroundings permitting): "SHUT UP STING, NOBODY HAS EVER LIKED YOUR MUSIC!"
So a top ten is very hard. I will try to get some of them out there:
Queen (hard to pick just one, the entire band is awesome): Save me
Metallica: The Unforgiven (iconic and great, the Unforgiven II is great, too, but III was a letdown)
James Taylor: Shower the people (most of his stuff was amazing)
Simon & Garfunkle: The Boxer
Don McLean: Ame (I don't need to type it out, you know it, is there any other Don McLean song?)
Bill Withers: Ain't no Sunshine
Can't pick just one of these: Alabama: Dixieland Delight, Eddie Rabbit: Driving my life away, Alan Jackson: There Goes, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band: Fishin' in the Dark, but one of them deserves to get in my list.
Astrud Gilberto: Manhã de Carnaval (yeah, you've never heard of it. If you ever wanted to calm down, play it.)
Jack Johnson: Go on, or maybe Sleep Through the Static, or maybe If I Had Eyes - good thing they are all on the same amazing album
I don't have a lot of 'kickass' songs on this list yet... In tribute to AC/DC after todays' news, I'll pick an oldie but a perverted goodie from them: Cover You in Oil
I'm going to approach this as "Here are 10 of my favorite songs currently" instead of "Here are my 10 favorite songs."
In no particular order:
1) Pendulum - Hold Your Colour. As someone who enjoys a few different genres of electronic music in addition to the "real" music genres i like, i REALLY like how this group effortlessly melds all kinds music together. This track is the one that really opened my eyes to all sorts of things. http://youtu.be/XlvZdsO5sIg
2) Ringside - Struggle. Hard to explain. Great groove, and i love the guy's voice. http://youtu.be/gSvHDBzCxi8
3) The Dandy Warhols - The Last High Modern alternative rock has really turned awesome in the last decade, and this group pretty much shows exactly why for me. http://youtu.be/GiZHmwzNAqE
4) Calvin Harris - I'm Not Alone (Deadmau5 Remix) Thanks, Gran Turismo. This is peaceful, and i can listen to it anytime. Yes, it can be repetitive. I don't care. http://youtu.be/q6b3FsBhRZM
5) Coldplay - I Ran Away All jokes aside (YKHIKYG?), Coldplay has historically been my one "go to" band for over a decade. http://youtu.be/pbI2jzSr3Ek
6) Feeder - Forget About Tomorrow The best band in the world you've never heard of. All of their stuff is simply excellent. http://youtu.be/QJepKnxhK0g
7) Snow Patrol - Somewhere a Clock is Ticking There's more to this band than the smarmy single "Chasing Cars" that got played to death one summer on the radio 5+ years ago. These guys are excellent musicians, with a great ear for layers. Example: http://youtu.be/PLg7zXlgNus
8) Radiohead - Pyramid Song Leave it to these guys to make such an awkward pair of time signatures work as well as it does. The completely haunting nature of the song doesn't hurt things. http://youtu.be/s2VzLn6DMCE
9) Dillinger Escape Plan - Phone Home I like my metal hard and math-y. http://youtu.be/9kLkh9iDXHQ
10) The Mars Volta - L'Via L'Viaquez Thoroughly bizarre, but the world needs more musicians like this. http://youtu.be/Zg6svO2AQHw
10.1) Deftones - Change What modern rock SHOULD be. http://youtu.be/ECoGgBBA7fc
10.2) Fair To Midland - Musical Chairs http://youtu.be/VsDJih0yYgk
10.3) Blackalicious - Deception Really.... i could list 50 songs on this list. It'd be way easier to do Top 10 in each genre. This rules hard, though. http://youtu.be/IqqPyKumZqM
10.4) Duran Duran - The Chauffeur Who DOESN'T like this song? The Deftones cover is berkeleying rad, too. http://youtu.be/hetgLIQFQ8E
Another one that's back from the dead.
I couldn't pick 10 to save my life. Every time I heard a song I'd have to add it to the list so I'm not even going to try.

Girls Guns and Glory - Inverted Valentine
Hayes Carll - It's a Shame
Adam Carroll - 'Ol Milwaukee's Best or Legs
Phil Lee - Killin' Time
Mickey Avalon - My D*ck (just kidding, but seriously)
Greg Brown - Canned Tomatoes
Drive By Truckers - Self Destructive Zones

Nq Arbuckle - Too Sober To Sleep or Part of a Poem by Aldan Nowlan
The White Stripes - The hardest Button to Button
Ray Lamontagne - Jolene
Stoney Larue - One Chord Song
Ray Wylie Hubbard - Conversation With the Devil
Dammit! Cake, Raconteurs, Jet, Ziggy Marley, anything from the Trojan Rocksteady box set, Social D (or better yet, Mike Ness solo doing rockbilly E36 M3), REK, Reckless Kelly, Lucinda Williams, Asylum Street Spankers,

Ah, and that is the challenge. Ten songs, that's it. Make a list of songs you like then start being honest with yourself. I was shocked at the songs I discarded after realizing they were good songs, but didn't elicit an emotional response from me. I want music to move me, make me FEEL something. Making the list is just a fun exercise and a great distraction from normal everyday stuff.
This is more of my 10 favorite rock tunes...
Thats 10 right? Oh. That's my current playlist. DOH.
Ask me tomorrow, and I'd probably give you a different list. In no particular order.
Roberta Flack. Reverend Lee
Sheena Easton. In the Winter
Harry Chapin. Cat's in the Cradle
Jim Croce. Time in a Bottle
Elton John. Your Song
Newton & Walker. Amazing Grace
Lottman's revision. Anchors Aweigh
Bach. Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring
Gershwin (and one particular singer who'm I've forgotten). Summertime
Louis Armstrong. What a wonderful World
Frank Sinatra - My Way - The ultimate expression of "berkeley you, I'm a man!"
Bruce Springsteen - Jungleland - I love early Bruce's "story" songs about blue-collar life in Jersey
Genesis - Mama - Phil Collins is a very underrated drummer, IMO
Led Zeppelin - Nobody's Fault but Mine - Bonham, Plant, and Page, all at their best
Neil Young - The Needle and the Damage Done - Simple, haunting, and beautiful
Metallica - Wherever I May Roam - Cliched, but god I love that opening riff, and then the drums come in...
The Rolling Stones - Tumbling Dice - The Stones were a great "groove" band by the 70s, and this epitomizes that sound to me
Van Halen - Little Dreamer - Hidden gem from their first album
Dokken - In My Dreams - Mid 80s glam metal at it's best
Ozzy Osbourne - Over The Mountain - He did his best work with Randy Rhoads, and this one never lets up
Rainbow - Stargazer - Epic, awesome, RJD in his prime, what's not to like?
Top ten is hard, mine's more of a current favorites:
Modest Mouse: Teeth Like God's Shoeshine
Sarah Jarosz: Shankill Butchers
The Decemberists: The Mariner's Revenge Song
Honest Bob and the Factory to Dealer Incentives: I Get By (blame Rock Band for that one)
Neutral Milk Hotel: Two Headed Boy
Iron & Wine: Love Vigilantes
Among the Oak & Ash: Bigmouth Strikes Again
Jack Johnson: Better Together
Reverend Horton Heat: Galaxy 500
Tarkio: Weight of the World
