My daughters third grade class needed an extra chaperone for their field trip, so I got the call. I love field trips. Don't even cade where we're going. Sack lunch, ride the bus, it's going to be a good day.

Got a call from my cousin yesterday. He's giving up on Kentucky and moving back to Wisconsin. (And would like my help loading his stuff).
Having put out an ENOURMOUS amount of effort this far getting him here and helping out he and his family, I only felt the smallest twinge of guilt when I told him that I was going to be out of town and couldn't help him move.
The reason this is going in the feel good thread: he and his family are unfortunately, a bottomless pit of need and as long as they are geographically close I will keep getting asked for help. Sorry dude, I'm done.
I've finally found a DIY garage in my area!

Oh, glorious day, I've been waiting for this! Now, if I can get the Alfa started, I can finally replace the starter motor I've been putting off for months!
8 weeks ago my wife started construction on our second tricycle motor. Today we heard its hearbeat on the ultrasound.
In seven months I'll have a new baby to corrupt
This is what I did to the last one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYU3FYKQapo
Hot windshield wiper fluid in a spray bottle really does the trick for de-icing a satellite TV dish!

"You bring me into your home, and you give me exactly five kibbles? WTF???"
But all seriousness aside, congrats on the new addition!!!!
Slept in, made a bunch of bacon, fried my eggs in bacon fat, brewed an absolutely bitchin' pot of coffee. Now I'm listening to The Minutemen's Double Nickels on the Dime from beginning to end.
Damn fine start to a Sunday!
In the last month:
Life is pretty ok right now.
I started a new job this month. Called my dad on the way home from work the other day, his vega's engine is rebuilt. He got back out on the track and ran in the 10s at age 70. When I got home, I made dinner, and had a 30 minute talk about ninja turtles with my 5 year old son. Still feeling pretty good.
Oh, and before anyone ask I do not have an exact time or any pictures of his vega with a 500 cubic inch big block. I will try to get some when I head out to CA this summer.
I was in a damn good mood, but after reading everyone elses posts I think I'll go post in the rant of the day thread.
Cute puppy!
Cousin saga continues. Posted here because it no longer involves me
He left Sunday for parts north in a huge Budget rental truck. Apparently more truck than he was equipped for as he managed to take down a Micky Ds sign and tear a huge hole in the side of the truck. Oh, and that supplemental rental insurance? Yeah he declined it and the lizard seems disinclined to cover him.
He's on his way back now aboard a greyhound which is only running 12 hours late so he'll arrive back in Lexington to get his van at 8 am rather than the planned upon 8pm.
So much bad luck. So much is self inflicted. Again: sorry dude.
Things to note here: cousins' van is at my house waiting for him to return. It's a 2007 Toyota Sienna with 158K on the clock. Missing two hub caps (opposite sides though) and one door handle. No keyless which is weird for such a car. Cracked windshield. Power steering howls like mad. CV joints click at full lock. Car is unspeakably filthy, as in he has NEVER cleaned it. Last year it started knocking really badly and when he took it to a mechanic he was told the engine was probably shot but when he put 4 quarts of oil in it the knock went away
And someday he'll sell it for a few hundred dollars to an unsuspecting fool who won't know just how neglected and mechanically abused this poor car has been.
Got a licensed and legal reflux still and spent 8 hours yesterday making my first legal batch of "fuel alcohol"
I now have about a pint of 95% ethanol for the lawnmower, and about 3 more pints of 75%-50% ethanol that'll go in the next run (plus a bit of acetone for Alfa engine degreasing).
Huzzah!
Meeting today with important people about RallySprint in Texas. An actual meeting with grownups. That isn't even about children! Kind of a big deal for me. I shaved and put on a clean shirt. I'm excited.
