A few years ago, a new farmers market showed up really close to us- and at that, a new baker in town appeared. We REALLY liked their bread- and this is a town that has a lot of baker options, including one that is really big well known, and of really high quality.
But we think that variety is good for everyone (and suspect that the big guy totally agrees, based on their stores).
So anyway, this couple had to move around a lot finding a good place to bake- and we did our best to follow them getting their product. We had a small change in patterns last year, and had to stop with that farmers market.
Still, they progressed- to the point that they are opening their own store in a town not far away. In their "we are open" e-mail, they specifically thanked my wife and me.
Wow. So very cool.
So if you make artisan stuff- whatever it is, as long as the quality is there, keep doing it. It does make the world better.

I haven't been able to post in this thread in a while. Got my Federal tax refund today! Ohio sent me a letter saying I had to pass a quiz for identity theft or something, answered 4 questions online (good thing I know my Subarust is a 2001), now give me the rest of my $$!
Took Friday off to replace the ECTS and thermostat in my IS300, bolt on my Thule cargo box, check oil, tranny fluid, refill and burp coolant, check tire pressure and load up. Made it safely to the snow on Saturday, went to Big Bear with my cousin and his wife, my son, my gf and her son and my buddy. Left almost on time, no issues with the car, the cargo box and roof rack didn't fly off, weather was nice, got plenty of runs in (snowboarding) didn't go over budget and got home safely.
Everyone had a great time, even if I only get to go once a season most years, a day like that makes it worth it.

Today I remembered the Abarth had heated seats.
You might find it weird, but as someone who works in IT I find it quite nice to type on an old-school "clicky" mechanical keyboard instead of a modern "quiet" rubber dome keyboard. It just plain feels better.
Got an interview for a full time position at Lowe's. I might finally be able to pull the red handle and jettison Sam's Club for good.

this …. and I'm not in IT … I had my MacMini in the shop awhile back and was looking to get a new keyboard (I had spilled a bottle of water on mine and most of the number pad keys don't work now) … all the had were the new style … but they did have some of the "clicky" ones for their in-house use … I asked if he sell me one of those … $10 later I walked out with, what is to me a brand new keyboard
I bought a couple of boxes of cheap Federal .45ACP and took my Hi-Point Carbine out. What a blast to shoot!
I came home and it was 60° out so I took the doors off of the Jeep and went cruising for awile. Its been about 8 months since they've been off.
It was a great day

I'm a self-confessed keyboard snob and I approve this message.
I am very particular about my old school clicky keyboard. It's got a cord and it's loud and it's perfect. Now I just need to hoard them because it's only a matter of time before they are NLA.
Actually thanks to the hipster programmers down in Silly Valley, they're easier to get again.

re. my post above … the Apple store only has the flat key keyboards anymore … no large clicky keyboards … I bought one of theirs that they had hooked up to the customer service desks

Well then dress me in flannel and call me Mr. Irony! (No, really, dress me in flannel. I just got back in from shoveling and I am cold and exhausted.)
Top two are vintage, bottom is new. You can even get new, more colorful keycaps and cases or custom-build your own keyboard. It's totally nerdy, but as a tinkerer and nerd it's not a bad hobby to have. I'm now keeping an eye out for vintage mechanical keyboards for cheap that I can clean up and flip.

Sending you a PM.
Went to my first NHRA nationals yesterday and today is my regions second autocross event of the year. High thin clouds and highs in the mid/high 70's. Arizona winters are great.
I got to spend a good bit of yesterday playing with a Fiesta ST in the snow.
I think my Mazda 2 is worried.
I just finished my last presentation in my last class on my way to my Bachelors degree in Electronic Engineering, and I'm fixin to pour me one taaaaaaaall cold beer.

Congratulations! That's awesome news!
It's Friday!
Went to Zales and then Bailey Banks and Biddle (BBB) during lunch, mostly just to look for a birthday present for SWMBO. I figured I'd actually buy online somewhere. SWMBO has shown me emerald and sapphire rings she's liked on Pintrests several times a month for the last 3 or 4 years.
Zales didn't have anything I liked, if the sales guy told me once that they still hadn't restocked from Valentine's, he told me a hundred times. For some reason SWMBO hates Kay, I don't recall why, I just know better than to buy jewelry for her there. My only other option in the Mall I was at was BBB. I almost didn't go into BBB, they're much more proud of their wares than most other jewelry stores I've been in. I figured, what the heck, I'm here already, so I went in. The sales lady was friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to work with my stated budget. Lucky me, they have a sale display in the back.
Second store I went in, under budget, less than half of their listed price (even after tax), and in my possession exactly a week before Jewel's birthday, all during my lunch hour.
My kid just got her ACT scores back. Got a 28. I think that's what I got, so we're all pretty happy. The difference is I took it as a highschool senior, my daughter is 12.
I am in a pretty damn good mood right now.
Tonight is date night with the girlfriend. The Keg for steaks, and then its her cousins birthday so we will have some drinks.
However, my dad first wants me to go put a deposit and hold this truck for him:

His recent 2004 has a bent axle and is due for a replacement. He doesn't want to buy a new truck until next year, so this one will tide him over. Its an incredible deal, the truck is easily worth $10k up here. On top of all of that, the topper will fit my 2008 so I get a topper out of it
I also just paid the entry fee for the Cochrane rally, first event in Western Canada this year and booked dyno time next Friday for the rally car to test the new fuel. WOOHOO!
well.. I did it. My vacation in september is all set up, room is paid for, and I am ready to go.. now I just need to wait almost 6 months till I can go. This is my first "real" vacation in 25 years!
I find myself giddy at the moment. Tomorrow we put the tracks on the Jeep and after that a whole group of us are heading to the gun show.
Not sure if the giddiness is a result of the prospect of a fun day tomorrow or the 20 oz Red Bull I just drank

good luck with that … I scored 150 pts higher on my PSAT (jr yr) than I did on my SAT (senior yr)
hopefully her score is the reverse of mine
I just found a whole new closet in my house I was previously unaware of! It was well hidden, behind my fridge and above the basement stairs, accessible by ladder. It's 3 ft wide, 6 feet tall, and 5 feet deep with shelving. It even has a hot outlet installed. The spousal unit is oddly ambivalent.
In a 1000 sq foot bungalow, I'll take every inch of storage I can get. I can't believe I have lived here 3 years and never noticed it.
In reply to bastomatic:
Now that's an unusual discovery.
A bud worked for a company restoring old houses in Charleston, in one house down on the Battery he showed me a hidden door off of a large staircase, inside was a smaller, narrow roughly finished one. That staircase had no lights or windows, went all kinds of screwy directions then opened into a small (5'x5') room with a window that had an odd sort of angle to it. When viewed from the outside, the window is not visible from the street or from the houses around it, but it is clearly visible from the Charleston harbor. There was one ring hanging from the ceiling, it appears the purpose of the room was to be able to hang a lantern that was a signal to blockade runners? pirates? who knows? out in the harbor. If you don't know what to look for, you'll never notice it.
