The name is OK, as long as the image is updated right?

Nothing says "Free Country" like some top-down coercion from meddlesome government entities to make you conform to their will, eh?
It was about time they changed names. There haven't been Indians in Washington in years. Will "Washington Theiving Bastards" fit on a jersey?

You are right! Scalping is so 1800s. I think a more modern symbol of terror for a mascot would solve this issue. The Washington Big Brother has a nice ring... might be too obscure though. LEts just go with The Jihad.
I think the name is racist and should be changed. I do not think the government should be trying to force the issue.

I was thinking "Washington Homeless Junkies" myself....
In reply to Tom_Spangler:
They've removed the trademark protection, not forced them to change their name. They can keep the nae but the government won't help them defend it.

oh come on now, regardless of your opinion on the race issue, you have to admit that this is a silly viewpoint.

Oh? Is this something they do all the time? Come on, it was a targeted effort to get them to change the name. You and I both know it.

Silly, perhaps, but it's technically correct - the best kind of correct!
The US government has basically said that the trademark is racist and will not offer it protection - revoking it. Effectively this forces the team to change their name if they want to keep making money since their brand just went into the public domain.
Odd, over all of the years of watching football I never gave the name much thought. It was just a name. Now, Oh my gosh, they are racist.
Bunk
I wonder how people come to the conclusion that a name is racist. It could just as easily be paying honor to the name. We've become a nation of thin skinned PC weenies. A poll of Indians, er, I mean native Americans showed that the vast majority of them have no problem with that name or the Indians, so why should anybody else? Well in fact it turns out that most Americans have no problem with it either.

WASHINGTON—Denying widespread claims that the franchise is being offensive or disrespectful, the Washington Redskins’ kike owner announced Monday that he remains steadfast in his refusal to change the team’s derogatory name. “The Redskins represent 81 years of great history and tradition, and it’s a source of pride for our fans,” said the hook-nosed kike, stressing that the team’s insulting moniker is “absolutely not a racial slur by any means.” “‘Washington Redskins’ is much more than just a name. It stands for strength, courage, and respect—the very values that are so intrinsic to Native American culture.” The shifty-eyed hebe went on to assure fans that he will do “everything in his power” to preserve the team’s proud heritage.

You got that right.
I live beside a large reserve. You should see all the logos like that on stores and businesses.

Apparently it doesnt matter. The only thing that does matter is that at least ONE person was offended. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/09/11/goodell-on-redskins-name-if-one-person-is-offended-we-have-to-listen/
Im getting tired of listening to this crap on local (DC) sports radio. Because I dont care about the name. But its not going away. If one press outlet covers it EVERYONE has to cover it or they are missing out on the story. God forbid someone get their news elsewhere. I guess I need to change the station because Im tired of hearing about it.
Or I can just sit here and be angry, possibly offended even, that they wont shut up about the Redskins name change.
Evidently this happened back in the 90's, the redskins appealed, and they won back their trademark protections.
Nothing has changed since then other than an even more vocal few dozen people who want to berkeley E36 M3 up for the rest of us.
I just saw today they're putting pressure on Cleveland for their "Chief Wahoo" mascot for being offensive.
