Grad school + English Literature + manual typewriter = PTSD
Word processing is the way and the light.
I haven't used a typewriter since my 7th grade typing class. So that would have been about 1995 I think?
Smith Corona was the major employer where I lived in New York. I have a manual "suitcase" typewriter in my basement.
Edit: What are you typing on?
In the olden days the professional typists on manual typewriters had to type 70 to 90 words a minute with no errors.
The discipline to do this would be extraordinary today but was common place back in the day.
Yeah but in the old old days, keys weren't identified. No Columbus System, you had to memorize their location. Yeah, clean the keys. I think I have an IBM Selectric in the basement if you want it, got a ball thing bouncing around instead of keys.

Were there no computers at your school?
Around that time we had typing class in elementary school on Macs. That was when Apple dominated the education market.
