I've been experimenting with barrel aging common recently, and it's fairly impressive. A friend actually thought it was a remarkably smooth bourbon. The madman in me is tempted to introduce coffee into the next variation.

If you can remember you were sharing.

I only have receipts and liver failure to go by.

Now for someone to GRM up a Rack AeriAle system in a budget.

Coffee can work well, but the oils can cause it to sour. Aged coffee beer is tricky as E36 M3.

That's why I'd love an AeriAle system to add a touch of velvety nitrogen to it. One of the keys with doing coffee is to cold brew the coffee first and use that opposed to whole bean or grinds when making the mort. That helps with knowing where you are from an oil and bitterness standpoint going in.

I can further verify that nitroing a skunked coffee beer (in this case a batch of coffee Porter we had go nuts on us) will salvage it nicely. The smoothness of the nitro carbing cuts the badness out.

15 gallon test batch is now fermenting, including 8.5oz hops, 6oz of which is dryhopped goodness.

Yes, and it's a war between east and west Michigan!

I say we spend one weekend a month where every beer Challenger meets at a either an east or west brewery for research

I do not imbibe myself, but I am very seriously considering attending the next Challenge in my old Grand Cherokee... just noticed this now and, well, GET OUT OF MY HEAD!

Test batch came out well enough that it's been picked up. My friend at Peabody got in touch with Mike at Key brewing and Key has ordered 2 barrels for production of barrel aged coffee common. Official name TBD, channel marker common being the likely name.
