I'm trying to do some research into what kind of suspension systems the current crop of "tradesman" vans offer. Not talking about the full size stuff like Transit, Ram Promaster or Sprinter, but the smaller guys like the NV200, Transit Connect, Promaster City, upcoming Mercedes Metris etc.

From what I can tell, the Nissan/Chevy and Ford T-Connect both utilize a torsion beam rear suspension. Meaning that lifting these for ground clearance is just an attempt at cramming larger tires under them.

I'm not sure about the Fiat based ProMaster City.

I know the new Mercedes Vito/Metris is independent rear suspension, allowing for a decent lift.

Are there current minivans that offer similar independent rear suspension conducive to some aggressive spring spacers and larger tires?

I have not looked under them, but might there be a chance that the torsion bars are adjustable?

Not torsion bar. Torsion BEAM.

Not sure about the 2014+ Transit Connect, but the 2010-2013 have a straight beam axle with leaf springs in the rear with mac-strut in the front. I had a 2010 until I traded for a Subaru Outback in June.
