So I needed a new power plug for my Valentine One radar detector, so I place an order with them online and wait. This is a simple cigarette lighter plug, nothing serious right? So I wait two weeks and hear nothing from them.

I email them and ask for a status, and they say that they cannot send me one without my complete serial number and profile data. Huh? I just want a simple plug for a unit that I have owned for years! I tell them that I am not comfortable with giving out my personal data for no apparent reason, so they refuse to sell me one.

Looks like I am in the market for a new radar detector...who knows what Mike Valentine wants with my info. Maybe he drinks the blood of the innocent to stay young? (he hasn't aged a day in 25 years according to their ads)

That's a shame. Just box that V1 up and send it to me. I'll destroy it post haste.

probably.

V1's are popular theft items. They do that that to make sure your's isn't a stolen unit.

I bet you could rig something up, is there info on the old adapter about what kind of power it outputs? It might even be just a mechanical adapter passing 12v straight into the V1 unit.

Personally I'd prefer selling replacement parts to thieves over building a database of owners of a device that helps you evade law enforcement.

It is just an RJ11 plug on the V1. Get a piece of this stuff they used to call "Phone Cable" with these little square plastic things on each end. Cut it to length and wire it into a regular cigarette lighter plug sourced from the junk box (or ebay, amazon, etc.)

But I wouldn't worry about it. I mean, you have just told the entire world you are a scofflaw. Google knows it and has forwarded it on to the NSA. That information is now sitting in Utah, waiting to be mined when THEY want to butt berkeley you for not supporting the right candidate or expressing your opinion or other "constitutional" right. What difference does it make now if Mike knows your info?

I'm all for it. I asked the Sirius people if the thief could register my stolen receiver, and she said no. I said, "That's great!", then asked if they could send a signal to make it explode. She said no to that, too.

Quit being paranoid, and buy a cable. The black helicopters will leave you alone, I'm sure.

Wow, there is a rational explanation, If I steal one I probably don't have the power cord! Why didn't they just tell me that instead of being all nasty and evasive with me?

I actually have all of the plugs, wires and tools to wire up my own phone cords, a skill I haven't used since the 1990's. I'll make my own, but I give them a nod of respect for trying to prevent stolen items from being used.

As for my file in Utah, whatever, toss this info on the pile.

heh.. I do not want to think of my file. Not only was an Ex-fiancé a Chinese National who's family was connected to "the party" but I almost took a job (this was before) with the CIA doing video editing.

Not to mention all the licensing and investigating done to get my casino license.

In reply to pinchvalve:

The Utah people probably have me labeled as an anarchist then, but that's why they asked as it is a popularly stolen item.
