These political posts are meaningless. The left get their information from one source that lies to them and the right gets theirs from another source that lies to them. Does anyone ever come out of these conversations having changed their mind? To the oricinal poster, with me playing the devils advocate, I would ask " Do you really want me to point out all the democratic politician crooks, adulterers, tax evaders, etc... For every political opinion there is an opposite opinion. Thus everything is settled by realizing that nothing will ever get settled. If you enjoy the banter, then that's great. I used to, but with our country going down the toilet, it's not something I enjoy anymore.

Yeah. Right............
That's really different from those who preach tolerance and acceptance.
Well, tolerance and acceptance and legislated morality are both approaches for harmonic society... otherwise I fail to see the similarities.
I'll take tolerance and acceptance though since it does not usually come with more ways to put me in jail for my thoughts.
That fully explains "hate crimes" which are completely contingent on a perpetrator's thoughts.
Existing law covered a perp's actions, but it was the thought that REALLY mattered.

That is not always true. Both sides agree that we can be exploited as long as it is "for the children". It is just what to exploit that they disagree on.
While I will grant you that a settlement doesn't always mean you are guilty...please, Mr. Cain, don't insult us by saying you don't even know these women. Strangers rarely get settlements from someone without being informed that someone is SEEKING a settlement. Otherwise, Mr. Cain, give me the name of your lawyer and I'll claim sexual harrassment...and like the others, you'll never have to meet me or even know I exist.

I am always amazed at how far people will go to not believe things like this. It was just as bad during the Clinton era.
When/if i get laid off at my current job, i'll get 8 months pay if i get laid off today.
I didn't even have to get smacked on the ass for it.

A hate crime is just a crime. "Hate Crime" legislation is trying to do the same thing that morality legislation is. I am not sure where you are going with this but in case you misunderstood me - I am anti-legislation of any kind with regard to motive or morality.

Well, I don't care much about politicians and adultery. I do care about politicians who want to legislate their morality while they live out their own immorality, whether they be democrat, republican, or independent.

That is a lot of words to say "I hate hypocrisy".
I completely agree - it isn't a quality that I look for in leaders of any kind.

I want meet all those lawyers who filed harassment complaints when he wasn't part of the NRA. You know, for those other forty years he was prowling out there.

My whole point exactly. It's the hypocrites who want to control your life you should fear the most.
Also, smaller government? Let's start with keeping government out of abortion, marriage, and other social issues that these two men obviously have a problem with themselves. That's the kind of smaller government I can get behind. But hey, I mind my own business. If you want an abortion or to marry your same sex partner I could care less. None of my concern.
Family values is a joke to these men.

I couldn't care less unless I'm the father of an unborn. If I want the child and the mother doesn't, well, that's where problems begin.
Marriage is a construct of religion; something so many want to eliminate from government. What's the big deal on same-sex marriage when a (federally-acknowledged) civil union can accomplish the same result?
The problem arises because though a civil union and a marriage are legally equivalent socially they are not. If a law were passed to make all marriages civil unions that may be one thing, however the religious right would likely fight to keep that from happening, and gay rights activists see being allowed a civil union while being denied a marriage as relegating them to a second class citizen status.
oldsaw wrote:

No it's not. Religion(s) have thier own beliefs and guidelines, but does not own marriage in any shape or form. In fact early (Christian) religion despised marriage as a distraction from your faith to god.
In reply to Cone_Junky:
Exactly. And before it was a religious right it was a commercial trade. My girl for your goats and a cow.

I stopped looking at other people's hypocrisy a long time ago when I came to terms with the fact that we all are hypocrites.
I am concerned with defining the limits and levels of my own hypocrisy.
Beyond that, the only thing pointing the finger does is allow three other fingers to be pointed back at yourself.
And Jesus said, "Let them who is without sin cast the first stone."
And then he said, "Mom, put the rock down."
The funny thing about those who seek power is that they are most often the worst sort of people to have any sort of power at all.

Keep in mind, I'm not french. I just kiss that way. I shamelessly stole this line from Leslie Nielsen in the Naked Gun movies.
