I found a painting platform ladder in the road outside my house recently. I have used the heck out of it since I found it.

You don't find Lot Lizards.

They find YOU.

Then that would make ME the road treasure? cheeky

Only if you pay upon completion.

A really nice digital camera that I spent almost a year trying to find the owners of.

I found a high-end camera in a porta potty at an airshow once. I took it to lost and found but not before taking a picture of my bare a$$ in the porta potty.

I was super amused with myself until the owner showed up to claim their camera just as I was dropping it off.blush

OMG... that reminds me of a wedding I went to.  There were disposable film cameras on all the tables, so we groomsmen all went and took pictures of our hootuses.  We were so pleased with ourselves until the groom's grandmother started collecting the cameras after the reception.  It was her job to get all the film developed.  Sorry grandma.

In reply to Mr_Asa :

My bil also found a pistol when he was in high school. Returned to police. Unfortunately, it was the state patrol officer who lived a few houses down who had left it on the trunk of his car and drove away. My bil knew him but didn't think to call him first.

I'm pretty sure the officer caught significant heat from that.

10mm 1/4" drive Snap-on socket. Seriously. In the middle of nowhere. Everyone else is losing 10mm sockets, but I am ahead.

On advantage of road riding on a bicycle is I find stuff all the time.  I've found three 10mm sockets over the years.  One Craftsman 3/8" dr, one no-name (1/4" dr, I think), and the best of all - a 3/8" dr deep Snap-On socket.  The last one really puzzled me as I was on a 60+ mile group ride with over 300 riders and I saw the socket buried in the shoulder gravel maybe 5 miles from the end. And my group were among the last to finish.  So nearly 300 riders rode past this chrome thing and I was the first to stop and check it out.

I've found a pry bar on the sie of the road during a ride.  I happened to be driving the same route later that day and it was still there so I grabbed it.

A neighbor was tossing an old wood work bench that I grabbed for Nonak's shop.

I furnished and air conditioned most of my first house off the side of the road. I still have a couple of the chairs because I can't find anything new that is as comfortable. After 30 years, they are due to be recovered again.

And a jerry can.

I found a 10mm impact swivel while on a road test, about six months after losing mine in a car's frame or something.  It was a blob of rust.  I put it in a Ziploc bag full of McDonald's ketchup packets for a couple days, and it was thus fully derusted and functional.  Still use it.

I found a reel of detonating cord in the middle of the street. The main industry in town was a blasting accessories company and the reel bounced out of a truck on the way to the storage magazines outside of town. I put it in my Datsun and returned it to shipping after lunch and quietly told the shipping supervisor where I'd found it.

Back when I was running the Trans Am team with TA2 Camaros, we had an accident that claimed a stock grill. We get back to Dallas, I so happen to be on an access road next to the freeway pulling in to a gas station when "WALLAH!!" Camaro grill that had been left from an accident! Made its way on to a race car!

A Dewalt Drill/Driver, in the case, with batteries and charger and accessories. It was laying in the middle of an intersection. There was a crew installing signs a half-mile away so I showed it to them to see if it dropped off their truck. They were rude a-holes so that one got sold on Craigslist.

An Ipad, in a case. The guy's business cards were also in there so he got that back. To say thank you he...walked away. Nice, you're welcome.

Not roadside but I was working with my dad on some property clearing and a squatted passed away and left an airstream and Chevy 3500 dually on the property.

He must have been a doomsday prepper and a former Boeing Machinist cause we found about 4 rifles, 5 pistols, even a flintlock pistol, About 2k rounds, a Snap On 6 drawer chest filled with Machinist tools, a Snap On tap and Die set, and the clincher was about 15k cash taped to the top of the oven liner. The inside of the trailer was pretty gross since he must have been an alcoholic and the place was filled with old food and beer cans.

I actually just used the Starrett digital caliper from that today

I once found everything to build a deck.  Was in the middle of an intersection about a mile from a Home Depot.  Waited at least 10 minutes for whoever lost it to come back.  Figured he would need a hand.  There were sono tubes, bags of concrete 2X8s and 2X10s, Simpson strong ties, and maybe 60 to 80 16' pieces of PT 5/4 decking.  It was nicely palletized and shrink wrapped.  Don't have any idea how the entire thing slid off a truck, but there it was.  After about 10 minutes a state police car pulled up.  Asked if the load was mine, and I said No, just figured I'd stick around and see if they needed help picking it up.  His response was Good, because whoever dropped it is looking at a mandatory fine of $5000 for an unsecured load.  Took that as my cue to leave.

My F-in-law grew up poor and likes to carry a lot of cash in his pocket in the white paper envelope the bank gives you for withdrawals. It made him feel good.

One time he was getting ready for a vacation and lost the envelope at the golf course the day before he was leaving.  He asked around but nobody (somebody) found his $1400.
