My personal Iphone 5S is dying and I don't want to get another Iphone for personal use. My sister works for Apple in the Valley and I can get a discount, but even with the employee discount, they're too expensive. Plus work gives me a 6S.
Here's what I want, cheapish, not afraid of used, phablet type(want to use tuning apps/OBDII connection etc on on it)..
What say you all?
Moto G series is the ticket here. G4 or G4 Plus if you want to go used, G5 Plus new. G5 is ~$220 from Amazon.
Wife and I just upgraded our phones - if you're interested in either an iPhone 6+ or a Motorola G4 for pretty cheap, let me know.
Motorola G4 or G5 are not a bad choice. Something like a Google Nexus 6P might also be a decent choice.
For older Androids I'd check if you can get a custom ROM - I did expand the lifespan of my Nexus 5 considerably by throwing LineageOS on it. Depending on your performance needs, that might open up more, slightly outdated hardware.

I've got the G5plus. paid 245 with tax. it charges very fast with the factory charger (3.0a output), but it lacks a status LED, which may not seem important but it it bugs me because I constantly need to move it to see what is going on. It also does not light up the screen when you finish talking on the phone and remove it from your cheek to show the end call button. It is however a basically unmodified version of android with no bloatware and pretty quick compared to a used samsung S6.

What network is the 6+ on? How much? I may be interested
T-Mobile - I should be able to get it unlocked, though.
Apple is offering ~$175 as a trade in, so I'd happily let it got for that to another GRMer.

Samsung note whatever. I loved my 5, but the battery isn't removable, and mine was dying.
