FM is hiring! We need a customer service rep, which means spending your days talking to/helping Miata enthusiasts all over the planet. There are worse days to spend your time - and when you're not doing that, you will be living in one of the best places possible with all sorts of great roads and mountain bike trails and skiing and no need to shovel the driveway. You could even end up as an owner as part of our coop.

https://www.flyinmiata.com/default/about/jobs

You could live here and deal with these.

That sounds fabulous, other than the "talking to Miata enthusiasts all over the planet" part.  Do you need a large, grumpy looking old guy to stand by the front door to scare people away?

Not at this time, but we will keep your application on file in case our needs change.

Every time FM is hiring is the worst timing for me to relocate.

You know, we actually did that back in 2003 or so. Whenever the P5 was new. Turns out it's a very different market.

You tell a Miata owner "bolt this turbo kit on and run it at 8 psi and it'll last for 20 years", and they'll do just that.
Do the same to a Protege owner and they'll run it like that for a week then turn the boost up until the rods come out. I don't think a single one of those kits is actually still attached to a running engine.

I admit it, I clicked the link. Probably can't drag the whole family to Colorado for it, but it's nice to dream.

Definitely tried the typing test referenced by the staffing agency too, and very narrowly avoided getting sucked down a black hole of typing games/time wasters.

Dude, I would ROCK that job.... after I learned a single thing about Miatas

Also, not a good time for me to relocate.

Also also, I hate winter.

We can teach Miata, especially if you have a troubleshooting sort of brain. And winter here is pretty darn pleasant - you can visit the snow, but you don't have to live in it. I haven't shoveled my driveway in years. Good time to relocate...well, that's something I can't fix :)

Nothing to add other than I love the co-op model. Good luck with the search!

The Miata is just like the escort, but rwd. So they like turning more and more often than not they have fewer front end clunks.

20 year old me is trying to pack and apply at the same time. Or would be if he didn't live in 1992.

Damn, this is tempting...  I love Miatas, and my sister just moved to Grand Junction, and I miss being able to hang out with her.  But the whole "dealing with people on the phone" kinda makes it a no for me.

You realize that you'd be talking miatas with them right? It's not like you'd be walking them through rebooting software and updating drivers or bios settings.

Everyone's reasoning for not considering is invalid, as least mine is due to enthusiasm for all Miata chassis being required. Sorry NC.

I've driven a couple hotted-up NCs. There's nothing to be unenthusiastic about.

You should have come seen Danny Kao run his NC at Ripken.  He's since sold it, of course, but it looked great and went great too.

In reply to Duke :

I tease about NCs, I have no ill feelings towards them, they're possibly the best car out of all the generations of Miata, even if they're 85% Miata in stock form. The platform's capabilities are certainly impressive though.
