Correction, I meant early models

I have seen a lot of movies and tv shows lately that main characters are driving older BMWs. I have seen several 2002s, E21 and E30 3 series, and I just saw a commercial for that "No Strings Attached" movie and Ashton Kutcher drives a E28 5 series.

I am just curious as to why older ones have become popular for cinema. Maybe because they have character?

I've noticed this for years now on the CSI: Las Vegas show...if there's a car getting blown up, or if there a dead body in a trunk somewhere, more often than not the car is an old BMW.

Dunno about late models, but one of these guys drove a nice 2002 in Backdraft.

What is that movie about a smartass lawyer in LA who gets roped into trying to prove a husband (Anthony Hopkins) killed his wife? Whoever the young laywer is, he drove a sweet looking 3.0cs.

They look good - still have a cool factor and are cheap enough to keep production costs down when they trash them.

isn't that the movie where the bad guy drives a Carrera GT? only on GRM would someone express love for the 3.0cs while ignoring the CGT. i heart this place!

Yeah, he does have a carrera GT and it sounds really good. I completely forgot about that, because I just love the E9's and hopefully will have one someday.

Spotted that watching Hancock last night. It's the protagonist business guy's car that Hancock throws to prevent getting smashed by a train. I couldn't seem to locate a decent pic of the front end.

Edited to add this pic.
