Need to move this along, offering it up here in case anybody could use it and doesn't mind tinkering with it. It's free because it is a bit of a project. I'm in Charlotte, NC.
This is a Harbor Freight bought unit over 10 years ago and only used a few times. It was billed as a quiet model similar to Honda's EU2000. It has a Lifan engine. And an electric starter plus pull start. It's an inverter model, so it will vary speed based on load.
The Good:
- Very few hours on it, I'd estimate less than 50 hours total use.
- Lifan is an established, Chinese engine mfr.
- Relatively quiet, not Honda quiet, but not bad.
- Last fall, prior to a planned week of boondocking, I cleaned the carb (not very gunked up), replaced the various fuel lines, fuel filter, priming bulb, sparkplug, changed the oil, etc.
Which leads to the Bad:
- During said boondocking, it was doing fine, but then would not re-start 3 days into the trip. I didn't mess with it until I got home where i found gunk on the plug and no spark. Cleaning the plug didn't fix it, but replacing the (nearly new) plug got it running again. I was running pre-mix in it (I'm a rotary guy, it's what I had on hand), which probably fouled the plug.
- It has always been a pain to start. I have only ever successfully started it from cold with the electric starter. Never able to pull start it when cold. From messing with it last year, I think the issue is it is really difficult to get primed. The instructions say to actuate the priming bulb 50 times! I'm not sure that's enough.
- The onboard battery for the starter is dead. I have been starting it either with jumper cables, or a 14VDC converter connected to an 18V tool battery. Lately the starter has "hung up" a few times when trying to start. I found a website that sells a replacement starter for about $30, but never ordered one.
- The plastic outer shell is held together with threaded inserts, and a couple of those pulled out or started spinning in the plastic during disassembly. So, some through bolts or zip ties will be needed to get it back together.
- There is one fuel line that needs to be re-done. It has a sharp bend, and my replacement doesn't clear the pull start rope. I have the original line as a template to remake a new one the clears everything.
Anyway, PM me if interested, I'm happy to answer any questions or give further details.
