Most people consider the sportster a standard not a cruiser. For most of its history anyway, until recently when the MoCo tried to cruiserise it.
Which is why I pulled it out and said "even the Sportster"
I think it is just the Harley style I really don't like. With the exception of the V-Rod they all appear to me to be designed by someone who was either the creator of a Pepperidge Farm commercial (Pepperidge Farm remembers) thinks Easy Rider was pinnacle of style (that head space above the front cylinder and the tank looks like a 4 year old built it with pipe cleaners), or thought bell bottoms was a good idea (the Sportster). Ahh but like I said, to each their own.
I find Honda's current lineup to plastic. Honestly the Retro-Mod RnineT is the only thing new that I have really like the appearance of.
The new African Twin is more my speed, so as you can tell I go for form follows function.

I really like the looks of that but I don't need any of the off-road capability. So most of what makes it what it is would be wasted on me.

I got to think that there is little off road capability with those tires. Potential? yes, but not as shown. Like buying a jeep wrangler with all seasons.
If you like the RnineT, check out the Griso:

I do love a Guzzi!!! Just not real crazy with the shin cookers. I remember the Honda CX500/650 too well.
But I would rock a Guzzi. The only thing I would change on that bike, as well as the RnineT is the can, a nice slip on and leave it at that.

You have no idea how well an adventure bike does on the back roads. On perfect payment a sport bike is hard to beat. If it is a normal 2 lane, that thing will wear you out. I kicked more than one squidberts ass on my Cagiva Gran Canyon. Not to mention pot holes, speed bumps, curbs, and just about any other traffic "control" obstacle immediately spurs you on to do a Steve McQueen "Great Escape" impersonation.
Ratchet up the pre-load add a set of street tires (or Pirelli Scorpion Trail, 90 street 10 dirt and sticky on asphalt and great in the wet.)
I do miss her so.

The African Twin is the real deal, on or off road. A tire switch is recommended for the heavy stuff.
Update: Pulled the trigger on this today:
2015 Diavel Dark Stealth (matte paint)
The new models are coming in so they wanted this one gone - it was the last one. Got it for $14,995. Pick it up next week and I'm practically itchy.
Yes that's a Multistrada next to it for $15,995 - another 2015 cleanout model.
Neato, report back in a few months on how it is going.

I agree with your choice as you are a wise man with excellent taste.
Now about those slip ons...
Congrats on the new ride.
This is the thing I would want if I was looking for the thing you are looking for. 2015 or better though... the early ones had teething issues. You can buy a brandy-new 2015 for $13.4k as a leftover right now if you can find one.
- LC8 V twin w/ 148hp, 92 ft/lbs
- 467 lbs dry
- WP suspension
- Bosch lean angle ABS
- Traction control with pre-configured modes for sport, rain, dirt and "trust me, I got this".
- Can sit on it all-day without requiring back surgery
- You can fit big metal cans for touring and crashbars/skid plates for off-road and it will do either pretty well.
I've always been an inline 4 sports bike guy that's morphed into inline 4 naked bike fan....I've been lusting after that Duc though.A 1200 monster appeals as well...quite a lot less $$ which is great.
All the latest nakeds have the stupid upswept tail section,I'm getting old and don't like the look or having to swing my leg that high.
Interested to hear your experience goes with it.
