My wife has had serious self-confidence issues her whole life, that's a huge story I won't get into.
About five years ago we moved out to a more rural area and she managed to fulfill a dream of her which was to have her own horse.
She's been taking lessons and has really come a long way.
She always told me that she would never let me ride a motorcycle because her uncle was killed by a drunk driver while riding his Harley.
After she bought the horse, I bought my first bike, took a class and have been riding ever since.
A year ago she decided to become self-employed which was another big step to better self-esteem.
In January, she decided that she might want to buy a scooter to run errands and meet clients because her big diesel Super Duty is a gas hog. I obliged and she became the proud owner of a 50cc china scooter which she has been having an absolute blast riding. ( I have to confess, I have a lot of fun with it too. )
When I decided to sell my CX650 last month, she suggested I keep it because she might want to learn to ride a real motorcycle (you have no idea how huge a step this is for her).
My reply was "well, you'll probably be a lot more comfortable on the Honda Shadow that I bought for you yesterday".
She was excited to learn to ride and I signed her up with the same riding instructor who taught me.
This morning she passed her skills test and is now able to do everything but ride at night and take passengers! We will be booking her road test in a month or so.
Can't begin to express how proud I am of her. A year ago she was absolutely terrified just sitting on the back of my Goldwing.
Don't worry, that hoodie has armour and I bought her a much better, armoured cordura jacket from Olympia last week.
We're riding to the vintage motorcycle clubs coffee meet tomorrow morning.
