When thinking about ideal track day cars, most of us probably gravitate towards Miatas or Toyoburus–but not forum user tygaboy, who is currently in the midst of pushing an early 2000s Mercedes-Benz CL500 into track duty.

Why a CL500? Perhaps its acquisition might have something to do with it:

I see this decent looking but clearly neglected CL500 that was stored outside at a buddy's shop. I say to him, "THAT needs to become my track day / Lemons car!" Long-ish story short, I end up trading the owner some of my time doing fabrication on his '55 Chevy for the Benz. And the fun begins!

So far, much of the interior, as well as the engine and transmission, has been gutted, aiming for a weight goal of less than 3000 pounds. The biggest hurdle lately has involved replacing the factory rear suspension setup with one from a C5 Corvette. (“I had it laying around for a project I never got to.")

See this Mercedes-Benz luxury barge get turned into a race over on the “RacerBenz - My CL500 Track Day car build” thread over on the Builds and Project Cars forum.
