Yeah, nailed it. Now you have to do some lug bolts though!
In reply to ssswitch:
Yeah, the lugs are a bit grimy. I'm not sure what to do about that at this juncture.
I debated redrilling the hubs to m12x1.5 when I had them off the car so I could use any number of nice lug bolt sets that I have on the shelf. Looks like a new set of 12x1.25 lugs will set me back about $40. For now I will probably be that cheap guy who paints or powder coats the bolt heads.
There's a very real chance of the car ending up with 4x100 wheels in the future. If I redrill the hubs, I'll drill them 4x100 and m12x1.5. I have some m12x1.5 PCD variation bolts that would allow me to run the 4x98 wheels with the 4x100 hubs.
Or I could just pony up the $50 for m12x1.25 PCD variation bolts and be set for 4x100 wheels in the future AND have pretty lugs in the meantime.
Frugality vs laziness, which will prevail?
I put these on the Wife's 500. They push on over the stock bolts.

You dont happen to have a second set of the fine thread bolts laying around I could replate for you?
Yeah, on the cheap I would chuck them into a jar of Copperhead BBs, shake them around to descale, and then call in a favour with someone who can replate them.
M12x1.25 is used on a bunch of Japanese cars for various odd purposes, but you'd be under a lot of Subarus in the junkyard to get a full set of 16 cad-plated undercarriage bolts, and even then they'd probably be too short or too fendery.
Subaru Impreza wheel studs are M12x1.25, though... how would acorn lug nuts look?
In reply to Jumper K. Balls:
I'll dig through the lug bin and see what I come up with.
I should theoretically have a spare set of bolts since the Coupe was 12x1.25 when I got it (or was that your sedan?), but I'm doubting that I'll scrounge up 16 spares. I know there's a couple in there because they always throw me for a loop when I'm digging for coarse thread ones.
There's a lot of lug caps like Wally suggested on eBay for under a tenner shipped. So that's probably the real solution here.
Boy, I'm kinda rambly tonight.
Tires are all mounted up are ready for some action.
Our benevolent overlords saw it fit to feature the car on the front page this week, so we've got that going for us
Which is nice.
I also took the time to register and plate the car this morning, so aside from insurance, we are ready to roll some miles on the girl and see what falls off.
Wheels went on without a hitch. I think the front needs to come down a bit more, but it's fine where it is at for now. The fronts are perfect as far as offset goes with the factory supplied 6mm spacer. The rears need to come out in the arch a bit before I'm happy.
All or the parts for the camber plates have arrived, so design and fabrication will start on those this evening.

I think that's because it's pointed slightly downhill in this photo. On level ground it looked like it was in a perpetual launch state; like an e30 325iX, if you will.
Gentlemen, we have lights!
Tail lights, brake lights, and turn signals both front and rear are all now in fine working order. The only lights not working are the front corner markers as they take a smaller bulb I didn't have in my stash and the originals had returned to the earth some time ago.
I also dug out the Hella H4s that I had put in the Spider before we cut it in half. I'll be relaying the headlight harness as well in an effort to increase light output/not kill the stock headlight switch and wiring with more amperage. The stock sealed beams will be in the trash before you know it.
Well, berkeley. Mike the kinda sketchy painter is officially in jail and has been evicted from the compound.
Very good question. I don't have specifics, but it sounded like he will be away for a while. My best guess is drug related charges. Failure to appear and several warrants is all I got out of the conversation with the landlord. Sounds like he's not welcome in the compound anymore, even if he does get out soon.
If nobody rents the paint booth out, I'll borrow my father's nice DeVilbiss gun and shoot the car myself, or talk the old man himself into shooting it.
This is a common problem. I have a friend that talks about having to bail out the guy that was building a body for his '28 Rolls.
See what his bail is, maybe you can get a good deal on the paint job by paying it
I found him and his charges on the County Jail Roster. He's not going to be around any time soon, and the compound will be a better place because of it.
So, lets move on, shall we? No sense crying over arrested drug dealers...
Kenny, the color has been discussed on multiple pages now. Page 1 and 7, I believe.
A (cheap?) late X1/9 engine popped up on CL today. What kind of witchcraft is required to swap a formerly FI 1.5l in with the stock carb and 4 speed? I did a little googling on the subject this morning, but didn't find any concrete info.
Or should I just bide my time until a complete fuel injected X shows up locally for pennies?
I think it's just an intake swap.
BUT!
The fuelie head has slightly different intake port shape to fit the injectors, so many swap the heads to avoid weird port matching machinations and a Yugo or 1300 head ups the compression a bit to boot.
Of course dual sidedraft and dual downdraft intakes exist to up the fun quotient :)
Hmm, so what you are saying is get that engine AND this X and combine the two.
I'm having a hard time quantifying spending any money on the 1300 lump because I know it's not going to be long before we go bigger. And I'll be a happy man when the carb goes in the bin.
As an aside, one of the new tenants at the shop has a tow dolly that he doesn't mind lending out to like minded individuals.

Yesssss, just sell the X tub quickly, before it gets too tempting.
You'll need to log in to post.
