Made mud flaps from the same ABS I used for the doors:

Cut some vent holes in the hood, completely failed to put mesh over them, and went for a drive:

The car drives well and the exhaust is quiet enough. It's a little loose in the back, and a tape measure indicates the rear has about a half inch of toe-in; I guess the new trailing arm is not exactly the same as the one I destroyed.

For RedGT, I took a quick video of the exhaust sound:

I edited the hotlinks for the skidplate photos, can you guys see them now? If not I think I'm going to have to go back to hosting on photobucket or something, google has been screwy lately.

Yes but now I can't see the pics for the exhaust and your latest post.

OK, I've switched over to Dropbox, hopefully that works better.

nope no better.

Trying to open the direct link gives me a Error (403) so you might want to check permissions.

Just use photobucket. I use PB and have never had anyone say they couldn't see my pics.

This thread hasn't been updated in a while! I started a new job so haven't had nearly as much forum time, but I've still been working. The RX7 got fresh gear oil and some more small repairs, none of which were photographed. I also spent a while working on the tow rig- Chief needed a new hitch, brake controller, and some other little stuff:

I also made a sweet roof rack and mounted work lights up there:

The eye bolts have accompanying tie downs so that I can carry wheels and tires for the rally car up there. Oh, and I made the light bar work while I was at it

I also bought my very first brand new thing with a license plate ever:

The RX7 went to Cars and Coffee, which was dumb, and I took this picture where apparently the lens cover slidey-doo didn't open all the way. Car shows are not really my thing.

Whats the deal on the trailer? I have been thinking I need to do the same thing, used is just not happening...

Econotrailer, roughly $2500 for a fully functional car trailer with electric brakes- it seems solid, so far the only thing it looks like they cheaped out on was the paint. Free delivery too!

Where did you end up buying the trailer from? Good deal?

Yeah, "omg, look, it's a car that gets raced and not waxed every weekend." Car shows aren't my thing either. Every now and then I get talked into attending some local car show. And every time I'm turned off pretty quickly.

At least it is a real racecar. I figure mine would get laughed out of the place as it is neither particularly pretty nor does anyone consider autocross 'real' racing.

Nice. Love the rack. I WISH I had a dedicated tow rig to do something like that to, but the wife will definitely not allow it on her baby-hauler/tow rig lol. Happy to see you finally got a trailer. I was just outside doing some modifying of my trailer (fuel jug racks, gear rack, place to tiedown our new toolchest).

Your trailer looks better balanced than mine, which is pretty tongue-heavy, so I'm kinda jealous

We're signed up for Magnum Opus, and to run the "Duathlon" class at the Hyperfest RallySprint- a full set of runs in the car, followed by a full set on the now-434cc DRZ rally bike. This means I need to figure out how to get the bike and the car on the trailer at the same time, but I think I have a solution for that.

I've also been pondering what to do next in terms of rally cars- the cage in this one is less than perfect, and the chassis is pretty dinged up. The easiest solution might be caging another FC and having it ready to move everything over... but FBs are tempting, as are some other options (such as a Merkur rally car which is currently for sale, or building an old Corolla, or too many other ideas.) Whatever the plan ends up being, I really like the idea of a build with no deadline for once, so I'm thinking I should get started this summer. Thoughts?

Realy giving up on the rx already? I figured you would run it longer.

I agree that a build you can take your time on while you have another running car is a great idea. Id look at finding a used built car though if it were me. There is a fire breathing v6 turbo logbooked volvo rally car near me thats been calling my name.....

In reply to java230:

Hell no! I'll run it until I wreck it or feel that I need more speed or safety. The point here is I'd love to be prepared when that day comes, instead of sitting there with a car that is either wrecked or not holding my interest going "what the berkeley do I do now?"

I have the time to start prepping something this summer, so I feel I should use it. I could just as easily do a challenge build instead, but being ahead of the game for once sure sounds nice...

OK good. Totally understand. Id still look at someone else's race car project. Its just a way cheaper way in it seems. But you dont always get what you would exactly want.

True, and I've done that several times over now. The appeal of doing another RX7 is that I already sort of have some "infrastructure" for running one, and could just move suspension over, keep parts of the other car for spares, all my wheels already fit, etc.

If I were you I would jump on that Merkur, if it's the one I think it is. That looks like a hell of a deal. I am tempted except for the facts that it is 17 hrs from me, across a border and my cash is tied-up in a car I have to sell. Seller seems to be getting a little desperate and a decent offer probably walks with that car.

The only thing I worry about those cars is spares. Up here they are long gone between rust and scrapyards crushing them.

Sounds like a good plan to me, though I'd stick with an FC personally - easier to find a clean one and probably better parts availability going forward into the future. I mean, I'm obviously partial to the e30 as a great platform for rally with a lot of support, parts availability, and strongly built and an take the beating...... but I know how much you like e30s lol and are a glutton for punishment on oddball cars, so the Merkur might be right up your alley. Or what about a Porsche 944? Good heritage and aftermarket there too, RWD, and dirt cheap in good shape on CL.

For the trailer, I'd just extend the deck forward. You have way more open neck on your trailer than I do on mine....My deck goes to about 4 feet from the ball/hitch. Tongue weight shouldn't be an issue for your rig as much as it is for mine. Is that a 16' deck on yours? Looks small, like a 12' with 3' dove?

For example, I could easily fit your rally bike in front of my e30 on my trailer, which is a 16' total deck length (no dovetail).

Are you going up to STPR? Jesse Yuvali isn't going, so I'm now a crew without a car to crew for...may just go up for a day or two to hang out, IDK.

Not going to stpr, new job means limited time off. Bike trailer rig is done but no pics because posting from phone and touchscreens are the worst

944s are a big hell no for me, for the same reasons as BMWs- I don't get along well with German engineering, whereas on Japanese stuff I can actually work without taking a break to let myself stop swearing. Not sure where the merkur falls on that spectrum. Only real hesitation about another FC is the interior is really tight- a modern spec cage might make it too cramped.
